λ A fine early 18th century 'Vernis Martin' brise fan, the ivory sticks painted in minute detail with a harbour scene, with a multitude of figures, with floral borer and landscapes to the reserves along with Chinoiserie cartouches above. The verso painted similarly with a bacchanalian scene with gilt border and landscape reserves. Both sides with fine miniatures to the lower gorge. With tortoiseshell thumb guard and later suspension loop. Circa 1720. Length 22cm.
