Y  A George III ivory octagonal tea caddy, circa 1800, the pagoda cover enclosing a subsidiary lid, banded in tortoiseshell and strung with horn, with silver coloured metal escutcheon, handle and hinge, 13cm highProvenance: Property from the collection of the late Mr. & Mrs. John da Silva Condition Report: Some yellowing and darkening to the ivory throughout, including some mottling to the cover.The ivory has vertical splits and cracks to most of the panels some of which extend to the cover.Slight tarnishing to metal mounts.Minor repairs to horn stringing including adhesive residue to the upper front edge (where there is also a small indent to the ivory below), as well as possible repair to interior banding. Oyster knife in very used condition. Blade rusty. Wooden handle faded and split. Jade handled knife blade worn and with signs of rust to the edge and pitting. Handle appears basically intact though with wear and tear conducive with age and use. One side much darker green than the other. The two other knives both wiht sections of handle missing.
