An early 19th century 24 bore Caucasian miquelet flintlock pistol, 20” overall, slender barrel 14¾” with long breech tang extending down the back of the butt and secured by a single brass band near the muzzle; plain lock impressed with circular brass maker’s poincon; slender fullstock covered with leather; with nielloed ball trigger and large spherical walrus ivory pommel with suspension ring. Good Working Order and Condition (some wear and contemporary repairs to leather). Plate 29
A fine pair of early 19th century French officer’s 30 bore flintlock holster pistols, by Nicolas Noel Boutet, 14” overall, with sighted octagonal barrels 9½” with single gold line at breech and muzzle, and gold touch holes, breeches struck with three small oval poincons (“CB”, “NB” and “LG”), the top flats engraved “Boutet Directeur Artiste” in flowing script, plain flat bevelled locks having flat swan neck cocks, raised gold lined pans, and rollers on frizzens, plates engraved “Manufre Versailles” and struck with small oval poincon (“DB”); walnut fullstocks, the butts with chequered panels and flared bases; plain steel mounts comprising flat oval butt caps, typical French flat trigger guards with shaped finials, and baluster ramrod pipes; ivory tipped wooden ramrods. Good Working Order and clean Condition,bright finish to lock and mounts. Plate 33
A fine cased pair of German 60 bore percussion target or duelling pistols by G. Noack of Berlin, c 1860, 14½” overall, octagonal twist barrels 9”, deeply etched in contrasting colours and silver inlaid “G. Noack In Berlin”, with scroll engraved false breeches, German silver blade foresights and deep 8 groove rifling; breech tangs profusely scroll engraved, numbered “1” and”2” respectively, and with key adjustable rearsights; back action locks and dolphin head hammers profusely scroll engraved, and originally fitted with safety catches, now missing; light walnut half stocks having scroll carved chequered panels and flared butts, and with German silver barrel wedge plates; steel mounts comprise engraved oval butt caps with domed finials, each bearing the serial number 7568, and profusely engraved spurred trigger guards housing single set triggers. Very Good Condition, one action is in good working order, the other fails to hold on full cock, both were originally fitted with safety catches, now missing; in their close fitted blue velvet lined light mahogany case with rounded rosewood edging and small shield shaped brass lid escutcheon, containing bright steel double cavity mould for bullet and ball in as new condition, bush embossed copper flask with much original lacquer, nipple key with octagonal walnut handle, steel loading/cleaning rod with accessories, adjustable tubular brass powder measure, sight adjusting key, ivory cap box, brass oil bottle and nipple holder with two spare nipples. The whole in good clean condition (minor wear to velvet lining, case lid very slightly warped). Plate 47
A Victorian officer’s mameluke hilted sword of the 10th Royal Hussars, curved fullered blade 32”, etched in scrolled, foliate panels, on one side with crowned VR cypher, “Royal/ X/ Hussars” and maker’s name “Wheeler & Robinson, 9 Prince’s St, Hanover Sqr (? unclear), London” and on the side with “X” in oval strap inscribed “The Prince of Wales’s Own Hussars” surmounted by feathers and motto, with battle honours “Peninsula” and “Waterloo” below, gilt mounted hilt, the crossguard with stud terminals and plain langets, back strap to ivory grips (tiny chip) with rosettes, in a non original silver plated scabbard with 2 rings. Good Condition (hilt regilt, blade some wear and light pitting patches). Plate 20
A naval officer’s sword for Commanders and above, c 1805-25, straight fullered blade 32”, etched, on blued and gilt for half its length with crowned 1801-16 Royal Arms and supporters, fouled anchor and flourishes on one side, and on the other with crowned GR cypher, trophy and flourishes, regulation copper gilt stirrup hilt, langets bearing fouled anchor, facetted knucklebow, flattened lion’s head pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound ivory grip, in its black leather scabbard with gilt brass locket (ring missing), centre band with ring, and chape, the locket engraved “G Banks Plymouth Dock” in oval. Good Condition for age, the hilt and mounts retaining approximately 20% blueing/gilding (rust pitting patches to blade, some wear to hilt and scabbard). Plate 20
A small 19th century Scandinavian hunting knife, plated, facetted SE blade 3¾”, whale ivory grip, with plain silver plated lower band, carved panelled top, in matching sheath with silver plated top band and small belt loop, the tip carved in the form of a simple leaf. GC (2 small cracks to sheath).
