Lot 64

Attractive Saruk ivory field rug (fragmented), north west Persia, early 20th century, 6ft. 5in. x 4ft. 4in. 1.96m. x 1.32m. Some wear in places; small crude repairs; losses to ends; small ‘bites’ to lower end right side. Note this rug has been cut and joined vertically on the left side, 10in. (26cm.) from the selvedge. It would seem that a strip approximately 2in. (5cm.) is missing from the field.

Note the fine velvety wool, rich red field, ivory spandrels and the stepped deep indigo central medallion edged in a pale gold. Note also the two multi-coloured tiny running dog guard stripes.
