A Royal Standard Mandarin pattern tea service, a six plate setting, comprising cups, saucers, cream, sugar, six tea plates and cake plate, together with a Grindley part-tea services, comprising five cups, six saucers, cream, sugar, six tea plates and cake plate, each transfer decorated with a band of orange and gold flowers on an ivory ground.
Sword: A fine 1831 Pattern General Officers Mameluke sword, formerly the property of Colonel E.A. Wood. Blade etched with Crown & 'V.R.' and 'E.A. WOOD' & 'X ROYAL HUSSARDS' two piece ivory grip (with minor repair) polished steel scabbard with gilt mounts with two suspension rings. Colonel E.A. Wood served in the Afghan War 1878-9 and participated in the assault of Ali Musjid and operations in the Leighman Valley. Mid and Afghan medal with claps. Later in 1884 served in the Egyptian Expedition and the Sudan and was involved in the battles of EL TC-B & TAMAI. MID L/Gaz. 6.5. 1884. Egypt medal with clasp and Khedives Star. Later appointed C.B. Sold with additional research which includes a good photograph of Col. Wood at Jellabad. Edward Alexander Wood was born in 1841 & died circa 1898. These Mameluke swords were very expensive and largely used for ceremonial purposes. This is an outstanding sword attributed to a fighting soldier in the Afghan & Egypt Campaigns. Sword sold with further information on Col. Wood. Viewing highly recommended.
A Cantonese ivory trinket box and lid, late 19th century, of oval section carved in bas relief with flowers, 10 by 7.5cm high, together with three 19th century Cantonese carved ivory brooches, one in unmarked silver mount with engraved detail, oval centre showing scene of figures, table, trees and buildings, with safety chain as fitted, 5 by 6cm, one with gilt metal twist border, also showing figures, buildings and landscapes, 4 by 5cm, and the third smaller similar, 3 by 3.5cm, and a 19th century ivory brooch modelled as a sheaf of corn/wheat with bow, 2.5 by 4.5cm.
