A REGENCY GILTWOOD AND UPHOLSTERED CORNER ARMCHAIRCIRCA 1820With outscrolled back, removable seat cushion and turned tapering legs95cm high, 67cm wide, 71cm deep; and a patchwork decorative cushionCondition Report: The chair legs have some marks, scratches, knocks, chips and abrasions consistent with age and use.There is a screw missing to the capping of one caster so that it is loose. The gilt is worn to the legs with some of the underlying white gesso revealed. There are chips to some of the gesso also.There is some evidence of old worm.The upholstery is calico with a green cotton twill piped loose cover and cushion. The green loose cover is used, with marks and some wear but remains intact. The calico is generally clean and probably of the same date as the loose cover.Please note we have not inspected the frame beneath the upholstery and can't comment on the condition and originality of this area.The patchwork cushion is backed with pale pink linen. Pierrot and Columbine Motor-Car Mascots Unusual to find as a pair, these well-crafted bronze figurines retain their gilt finish with ivorine (not ivory) head and arms. A popular character in the commedia dell'arte oeuvre, Pierrot is singing and playing his mandolin to Columbine who rejects him in favour of Harlequin, a rare mascot in similar condition, but with a damaged hand. Both mounted on turned mahogany bases, each mascot 14 cms high. (2)

Haji Masavara (Iranian, early 20th century), The Iranian Game of Chovgan, known as Polo watercolour on ivory, inscribed on reverse "Haji Masavara Isphahan circa 1920", signed in black ink lower centre with a stylised monogram forming a head, inlaid frame 5¼ x 9 7/8in. (13.3 x 25cm.) * Chovgan, Chowgan or Chogan is a team game with horses that originated in ancient Persia now modern Iran. It is played in Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan and among Tajiks and Uzbeks. It was later adopted in the Western World where it is known as Polo. The word "Isphahan" inscribed on the reverse is probably a reference to Ispahan, a city in Iran where the game of Chovgan has been played for centuries. ** Please note that this lot is subject to international CITES regulations.
