An upright combined barrel piano by Henderson, London, circa 1825 The rosewood case inlaid with foliate brass decoration surmounted by a swan-neck cornice with a cast gilt metal frieze. The panel beneath the keyboard with a similar gilt moulding. The pleated silk panel above the keyboard surrounded by a cast gilt metal moulding. The keywell in rosewood inlaid with a simple brass stringing, the nameboard bearing a rectangular plaque between gilded floral tendrils inscribed: Henderson. Little James Street Bedford Row London. The six octave keyboard FF-f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Bichord to Eb and trichord above, sticker action, two pedals controlling keyboard shift and dampers. The barrel, with nine tunes, operates a second set of hammers which act without raising the dampers. The instrument can be played as a conventional piano, a barrel piano alone (the player then operating the dampers at will), or with both combined. Raised on a frame stand with four square tapered legs veneered en suite. The keywell in maple, cross-banded with mahogany and inlaid with ebony and boxwood stringing. An oval boxwood plaque in the nameboard depicting a cherub reclining on a plinth on which is inscribed: HAXBY YORK. The five octave keyboard FF-f3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. An anonymous Clavecin Royal, Germany, circa 1785 The oak case raised on four square tapered legs. The later oak cross-banded lid with an inner painting depicting Glenarm Castle. The plain oak nameboard bearing a later paper label inscribed: Johann Gottlob, Wagner. In Dresden. The five octave keyboard FF-f3 with ebony naturals with arcaded fronts and ivory capped accidentals. Stossmechanik action with under-dampers. At the bass end of the keywell a curved brass lever controlling the dampers and a stop-knob, once probably operating a missing harp-stop. Single ebonised bridge. Two ' Kirckman' style roses surface mounted on the soundboard. Width 174cm, depth 56cm, case height including lid 26cm. A small organ by Longman, London, c.1805 The mahogany inlaid case with four integrated square tapered legs inlaid with simple boxwood stringing. Concave fronted shelf below, with pedal for pumping. The three octave and four note keyboard CC-e3 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. One knee-operated stop pedal in brass. Forty-one wooden pipes. The mahogany name batten bearing a black painted panel inscribed: John Longman 131 Cheapside London. Width 67.5cm, depth 64.5cm, total height 70.5cm. A grand piano by Broadwood, London, 1846 The rosewood case with piecrust moulding around the perimeter of the lid and carved bracket cheeks, raised on three hexagonal legs with acanthus cappings. The interior of the rosewood folding fall board bearing a paper label inscribed: Patent Repetition Grand Pianoforte, John Broadwood & Sons, Makers to Her Majesty, 33 Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London. Six octave and seven note keyboard CC-g4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Patent repetition grand action. Two lyre mounted pedals controlling dampers and keyboard shift. Frame with six metal bars and decorated metal hitch-plate. Serial number 16682 Length 246cm, width 132cm, case height including lid and leg blocks 40.5cm. Provenance: Multiple entries for this piano have been found in Broadwood Porters' books held at the Surrey History Centre: First sold 3rd November 1846 to Miss Foster. The second owner, Mrs. Merest, owned it through many house moves from 29th July 1847 to 12th May 1875. From the latter date Broadwoods stored it until it was released by her executors on 22nd May 1890 and sold again.

A square piano by Clementi, London, circa 1821 The mahogany case cross-banded in rosewood with a simple fruitwood stringing, the canted corners inlaid with brass foliate patterns. Two cast gilt metal mouldings run above and around the perimeter of the rosewood veneered skirting. Raised on six turned and reeded legs with engraved brass collars, three cross-banded drawers with brass handles beneath the skirting. The keywell in rosewood with brass inlay, the nameboard with two pierced panels, at its centre a crown above a gilt rectangular plaque flanked by foliate gilt scrollwork inscribed: Imperial Patent, CLEMENTI & COMPY LONDON. The six octave keyboard CC-c4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Double action with mop-stick over-dampers. Two pedals operate the dampers and the 'Bridge of harmonic swell and reverberation'. A paper label gives: DIRECTIONS for the USE of the PEDALS. All surmounted by a panel with false drawer fronts flanking a pair of false cupboard doors. The nameboard in gilt on a black ground inscribed: LONDON, Collard Moutrie, SOUTHAMPTON ROW, RUSSELL SQRE . The seven octave keyboard AAA-a4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Two pedals. A metal transposing lever to the right of the keyboard bearing a medallion inscribed: COLLARD MOUTRIE, 77 SOUTHAMPTON ROW W.C., PATENT, MUSICAL PITCH PIANOFORTE. At present set up with three rows of plastic harpsichord jacks, this instrument appears to have been converted from a piano The instrument had an action accessed from underneath in a manner only used by Crang Hancock. The case has been lengthened whilst in Colt's ownership. The extant examples of Crang Hancock grand pianos are all relatively short, so it may have been lengthened in the misbelief that it had at some stage been reduced in length. An upright square piano by Clementi, London, circa 1812 The mahogany case with inlaid lines of ebony. The top surmounted by a pierced brass gallery. The watered silk panelled front with four Ionic pilasters terminating with ormolu dancing maidens. Raised on six turned and reeded legs with brass castors. The mahogany batten below the keyboard bearing a boxwood plaque inscribed: New Patent, CLEMENTI & Co. LONDON. The six octave keyboard FF-f4 with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals. Single pedal operating dampers. Two piece soundboard with a rectangular fretted insert. Serial numbers 461 and 11236 Width 144cm, depth 52cm, case height 151cm.
