C.1962 BSA Sunbeam 175, Project, 175cc. Registration number VAY 804 not recorded with DVLA. Frame number not found. Engine number S1478.The BSA Sunbeam, also sold as the Triumph Tigress, was a scooter designed to have good performance and handling for the motorcycle enthusiast. The entry of the BSA group into the scooter field was announced by Edward Turner in October 1958. The design by Edward Turner drew on Triumph's long experience of building fast motorcycles, and was sold under two brand names to take advantage of established distribution networks. This badge engineering was one of the last uses of the Sunbeam marque. The differences between the BSA Sunbeam and Triumph Tigress were entirely cosmetic - the former in polychromatic green paint, also two-tone red and cream, with a BSA badge; the latter in a shell blue or mimosa and ivory (two tone) with Triumph badging.The scooter was available with a 250 cc four-stroke twin or 175 cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine. The 250 cc model was discontinued in 1964, the 175 cc model in 1965.The registration number is not recorded with DVLA and there is no paperwork.

A silver mounted hanger, c 1760, of the type favoured by naval officers, slightly curved blade 25”, with central fuller, narrow back fuller and double edged point, pierced, wavy edged silver knucklebow incorporating a heart, lion’s head pommel, green stained, diagonally fluted ivory grip, in its silver mounted tooled (faint) leather scabbard. GC. £400-500
A late 18th century officer’s spadroon of a type favoured by naval officers, plain slightly curved blade 24½” with broad and narrow fullers extending to the tip; brass stirrup hilt with 5 ball side loop, plain knucklebow, octagonal pommel, and fluted rectangular ivory grip inset with ebony strips; in its brass mounted tooled leather scabbard. GC (slightly worn, the scabbard leather slightly crinkly but sound). £200-300
An 1805 pattern sword for Royal Naval Commanders and above, straight fullered blade 32½”, etched with crowned Royal Arms and supporters, crowned foulded anchor, naval triphies and naval crown, blued and gilt for two thirds of its length, regulation gilt stirrup hilt, the lancets engraved with fouled anchor, facetted backstrap and lion’s head pommel, wirebound ivory grip. GC the blade retaining approximately 40% blue and gilt, the hilt approximately 85% gilt (top of grip chipped, a few small cracks, some light pitting stains to blade) £500-600.
A Georgian “5 ball” naval dirk, polished DE blade 15¾”, with fuller for two thirds central length, brass S shaped crossguard with disc quillons and 5 ball side ring, fluted rectangular section ivory grip, with brass lower band and pommel with ball button, in its brass mounted leather sheath with hanging ring and frog stud. GC (sheath leather AF, hairline crack to grip) £300-400.
A good old Sinhalese knife Piha Kaetta, thick heavy blade 8½” with engraved brass panels in the deep fullers and on the back edge, with heavy pierced and engraved mount and deeply carved stained ivory grips with engraved metal rivet heads. A Belgian gold plated 6 shot 12mm Chamelot & Delvigne double action pin-fire revolver, c 1865,number 3154, octagonal barrel 115mm (4¾”), the breech marked “CHAMELOT & DELVIGNE INon Btee”, the barrel engraved in gothic script “Juan Lopez Buenos-Ayres”, Liege proved, the breech, cylinder and frame engraved with panels of flower heads, with sliding ejector rod, knurled capstan bolt securing the barrel, folding trigger, bag shaped butt with plain ivory grips, and lanyard ring. A Belgian 6 shot 12mm Lefaucheux gold and silver overlaid closed frame double action pinfire revolver, c 1865, round barrel 120mm (4¾”), with raised top rib numbered 3054 on left side, the breech marked “E LEFAUCHEUX INVR BREVETE”, and gold overlaid on the top rib “E.PARIS A BUENOS-AYRES”; Liege proved; the barrel and frame overlaid with gold and silver scrolls and foliage, similar overlay on the cylinder also inhabited by birds of paradise; with ejector rod on the right, plain ivory grips, and lanyard rings. Good Working Order and Condition. £400-600.

John Cox, rector of Cheddington and Vicar of Stockland-cum-Dalwood and of Martha Rowe. He was educated at King's School, Sherborne and Addiscombe Academy before entering the Bengal Artillery in 1838. Serving as a Subaltern he fought in both the Gwalior Campaign 1843-44 and the Sutlej campaign 1845-46 where he was wounded at the battle of Moodkee. During the Punjab Campaign 1848-49 he served as a Brigade Major of Horse Artillery and was mentioned in dispatches. He became Captain in 1853 and took part in operations in Rawalpindi and Peshawar during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in 1860 and then Colonel in 1863, he married his wife Charlotte Elizabeth Cox (nee Farr) in 1864, before becoming a Companion of the Bath in 1874. He died in 1903, St George, Hanover Square , London and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery.
