Vizagapatam sewing box, the sandlewood box decorated with ivory and inked detail, lidded box compartments and thread holders with sectioned area below and single frieze drawer, lion ring handles and key, 21cm x 28,5cm CONDITION REPORT: Hinged lid missing two side sections. Ivory panels on sides parting from box. Panel of ivory on rear of box with hairline cracks. Fitted interior mostly complete, tape measure missing from case, missing a thread bobbin.
Japanese okimono in ivory and wood, depicting a kneeling man with a mop on his back holding a hibachi in the form of a bear, signed at base, 6.5cm CONDITION REPORT: The firgure is generally in good condition except for damage to left foot, two smaller toes missing and tiny chips to folds in robe at underneath of carving. Piece is signed.
Good 19th century Chinese fan, the leaves decorated with courtiers in a palace setting, ivory heads, the guards in gilt metal with enamelled decoration, gilt wire and relief silver wire dragon decoration, the sticks alternating pierced gilt wire with enamel mother of pearl, pierced and stained green red and white ivory and sandlewood, 27.5cm CONDITION REPORT: When open side one - leaf is generally good commensurate with age, paint loss at folds, no missing heads. Generally paintwork is good and bright, some tiny tears at bottom edge of leaf. Conditions are right to left. Sticks 1. 1st sandlewood, strengthened towards base. 2. ivory appears ok. 3. red ivory appears ok. 4. gilt wire, slight strengthening perhaps just aboe lower enamelled area, slight discoloured areas, (wire). 5. green ivory - some discoloured areas mainily towards base. 6. tortoiseshell appears ok. 7. gilt wire - some slight enamel losses, ? some strengthening in some places as 4. 8. mother of pearl appears ok. 9. tortoiseshell appears ok. 10. green ivory appears ok. 11. gilt wire appears good. 12.red ivory appears good. 13. ivory appears good 14. sandlewood, one tiny loss in main section. 15. gilt wire - possible some strengthening at base, some wire missing, slightly discoloured in areas. Side 2 open Leaf similar condition to reverse, timy tears damage to bottom of leaf, some minor gilt paper losses at top of leaf. Other side of sticks One slightly larger loss at top of mother of pearl stick, one face is missing. Mother of pear stick has crack across, just below large section, not really visible on other side otherwise condition is as per other side. Total dimensions when open 52cm x 29cm.
Two 19th Chinese ivory card cases deeply carved with figures in a pavilion and forest landscape, 11cm x 6.5cm CONDITION REPORT: Case 1: slightly dirty, generally moderate condition but piece i missing from left hand side of lid c1.6cm x 2cm. There is also a long crack running ¾ length of lid and into one side, there is also another crack, also on side with small piece missing. Some fine age cracks, some tiny losses. Red seal/glue residue to base. Case 2: has damage to to two sides of top. Rather dirty overall, ink marks to cartouche and to foliage at left, some fine age cracks, some tiny losses, glue residue to base.
Vizagapatam box of sarcophagus form, the sandlewood carcass with ivory, metal and micro inlay, the interior fitted with lidded boxes, ivory boxes, thread winder, drawer below, 28cm x 43cm CONDITION REPORT: Poor condition but there are alot of fitments inside and the interior is in better condition, loose stringing, metal decayed and raised areas of decoration missing
Chinese ivory card case, carved with four vignettes of figures in a garden setting, the edges carved with scrolling flowers, 8.5cm x 4.5cm and a Chinese carved ivory figure of a woman and child, seal, 8.5cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: Figure is loose in base as part of stand where figure slots in is missing. There is also a split through the stand base. Box rather dirty. Lid has disquised natural fault at top of vignette. Box appears in generally good condition, top left hand corner has slight chip/flaw.
Japanese ivory okimono of an old man holding a spade, a boy at his side holding up a tortoise, Meiji, 7cm and another of a man holding a dove in a basket, one leg raised and with toads at his feet, signed Meiji, 15cm (2) CONDITION REPORT: Large figure: chicken missing beak and one wing hip. Man's foot glued onto bone. Small figure: boy's foot is detached but present and is stained. Small chip to front of spade.
Early 20th century Chinese carved ivory figure of Shou Lao holding a peach branch and a staff, wooden plinth base, the figure 32cm CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition, some fine age cracks to back of figure. Small age crack at front foot and robe edge. No apparent missing pieces or damage. Simple stand appears in good condition. Small hairline cracks to foot and bottom of robes. No losses.
Chinese carved early 20th century soapstone brushwasher, the lidded spherical pot on spreading support, surrounded by five monkeys and a pierced and carved leafage apron, label to footwell 1911, Foo Chow, Sept 3rd 1911, and a carved Indian ivory elephant, 10cm and 8cm. (2) CONDITION REPORT: Brushwasher has two small chips to cover on rim. elephant missing one tusk and two finials on howdah. The trunk is glued and there is extensive restoration.

A Chinese early 20th Century export Tackhing of Hong Kong three piece silver tea service Comprising teapot, lidded sucrier and milk jug, all of facetted square section, raising from a tapered square base, engraved with alternating panels with bamboo and spot hammered design, together with a pair of silver sugar tongs with similar design, stamped 'Tackhing, 90% silver, made in H.K.', teapot with later presentation engraving to the cover, dated 1952, teapot 12.5cm high, sucrier 11cm high, milk jug 9.5cm high. (4) CONDITION REPORT: Minor scratching to the exterior of the teapot. Cracks to the ivory/bone inserts in the handle. Two Japanese carved ivory sectional Okimono, late Meiji Period (1868-1912) The first modelled as a Kyudo (Japanese archer), dressed in robes holding a bow and with a quiver of arrows on his back, signed to base, 20cm high, together with a second Okimono, modelled as a fisherman, modelled on shaped circular base, signed to base, 19cm high. (2) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1034 Figure with bow and arrow has cracks to face and base, bow has been broken from hand and glued. Cracking to body. Cockle picker with hand broken and glued, light cracking to base, open crack to side of head.
Two Chinese Canton carved ivory fans, late 19th Century The first a nineteen blade example, carved with typical Chinese motifs including phoenix in flight, Ruyi bats, auspicious fruits and vegetables, 19cm long, together with a twenty-one blade fan, carved and pierced with Manchu figural designs, each short blade adorned with a white feather, 27.5cm long. (2) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1035 Feather example, clean, just one feather end missing. Second example, ribbon missing, very light cracking.
A Chinese carved ivory puzzle ball, late 19th/early 20th Century The carved and pierced circular base, rising to a carved figural base, with knopped stem and dish upper cup supporting a heavily carved spherical ball, carved with dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl, encompassing several layers to the interior, overall 22cm high, together with original fitted box. CONDITION REPORT: Second inner ball has been broken and cracked into pieces. Third ball cracked in half. Two further inner balls damaged.
A Japanese ivory and bronze figure of a farmer, possibly by Hideyoshi, Meiji Period (1868-1912) The figure dressed in kimono and geta, with woven coney hat resting on his back, he has a basket brimming with fruits and vegetables over his shoulder, mounted on a carved wooden base, signed, 21cm high. CONDITION REPORT: Very small crack at top of head, approx 2mm long. Ivory dirty, right leg with hairline crack and possibly re-glued. Otherwise good.
A Japanese ivory shibayama snuff dish, late Meiji Period (1868-1912) Of oval form, with gently sloped sides, carved and stained with geometric borders, the central field applied with mother of pearl depictions of birds and flowering lotus, 10cm x 9cm. CONDITION REPORT: Eight pieces of inlay missing. Inner oval body loose but clean.
Two Japanese carved ivory Okimono, late Meiji Period (1868-1912) The first possibly marine ivory, the gently curved as a fruit farmer, holding fruiting vines, raised on a rocky outcrop base, signed, 29cm high, the second a sectional carved figure modelled as a barefoot farmer, dressed in embroidered robes, holding a tea kettle and woven basket on his back, signed, 22cm high. (2) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1043 Base is slightly loose, light cracking to side. Figure holding teapot - broken off base bu feet and glued, light cracking to body, fruit broken away from hand and glued.

CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1044 Light cracking to head and arms, many light cracks to base, otherwise good condition.
A Chinese embroidered panel, early 20th Century The silkwork orange ground panel with exterior ivory studded border, embroidered with floral designs, the upper segmented section depicting immortal dieties each holding their symbolic attribute, the central panel with five qilin embroidered design, framed and glazed, 79cm x 90cm.

A Japanese Satsuma bowl, possibly Gyozan, Meiji Period (1868-1912) The scalloped rim circular bowl, the ivory crackle glaze, further detailed in enamels and gilt with diamond shaped panels depicting musicians, floral sprays and mountainous landscapes, before trellis work and dense foliate ground, 5.5cm high, 15cm diam, indistinctly signed to base.
A beautiful pair of Japanese 'Thousand Butterfly' satsuma vases, Meiji Period (1868-1912), in the manner of Yabu Meizan Each of ovoid form, extending to a waisted neck and everted rim, the exterior sides densely and finely enamelled in gilt and polychrome with a series of butterflies in flights, before cartouche filled with mountainous pagoda ladnscapes, and scenes of gatherings of figures and officials on horseback, reserved against a clear ivory crackle ground, heavily detailed with floral brocade, phoenix roundels and kidney shaped panels, 15cm high, unidentified signature. (2) NB: Butterflies are profoundly symbolic in Japanese culture and are associated with our souls. The Christian religion sees the butterfly as a symbol of resurrection. Around the world, people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life.
A Japanese Satsuma vase, Meiji Period (1868-1912) Of rounded ovoid form, rising from a low pedestal base, and terminating at a flared upper rim, the exterior sides flanked by twin relief moulded dragon handles, with allover ivory crackle glaze and enamelled and gilded depicting an assembly of figures and immortals before a bamboo grove, signed, 22cm high.
A Meizan studio Japanese satsuma wine/tea pot, Meiji Period (1868-1912) The compressed cylindrical form body, with sloped sides upper and lower sides, raised on a low circular footring, surmounted by a flat integrated cover and flanked by swept short spout and high loop handle, the exterior sides intricately painted with figures before a riverside scene, detailed with pink blossom trees, further embellished with kidney and fan shaped panels filled with figural scenes, reserved against an ivory crackle glazed ground, 10cm high, feint signature to base. CONDITION REPORT: Extensive rubbing to mark on underside of the base. Scuffing and wear to the foot rim. Free from chips/ cracks/ restoration. Minor scratching to the inside of the teapot. Scuffing and wear to the inside of the rim, no chips.
A Japanese satsuma pedestal dish, signed Seikozan Tsukuru, Meiji Period (1868-1912) The circular lobed rim, before upper well finely painted with geese in flight before a watery landscape, the border enamelled in iron-red and gilt detailed with a series of densely clustered chrysanthemum and lined in gilt, the underside with ivory gilt ground and further swallow design, 6cm high, 24cm diam. CONDITION REPORT: Crazing throughout to the enamel and glazed areas. Rubbing to the gilt at the rim. Scuffing to underside of each support. Colours vibrant. No visible signs of damage or restoration.
