A small Chinese ivory carving of four boys, consisting of two heads, two pairs of arms, two pairs of legs joined by four bodies, probably 17th century, wear and minor damage, 4cm. This type of figure is sometimes referred to as si xi ren, a person who enjoys the four blessings of happiness, high official position, longevity and good luck.
A set of Chinese opium scales, in a hardwood case with a guitar-shaped lower section containing gilt metal pans and an ivory scale, together with a collection of spindles, needlecases, hair ornaments, a bone carving of a bear baiting, and an opium knife with an axe-shaped blade. (A lot). Provenance: Acquired by John Reeves after his arrival in Canton in 1812, and thence by descent.
