A North African (Algiers) toe-lock musket, early 19th century, with etched twist barrel inlaid with silver foliage at the muzzle and ahead of the breech section and retained by four silver bands pierced with scrollwork. With iron lock overlaid with brass panels cast and chased with scrolling tendril patterns, cut with brief Arabic inscriptions along the lower edge and on the mainspring, and fitted with pivot safety-catch inset with a coral plaque. Wooden three-quarter length stock inlaid over its length with silver plaques decorated with engraved openwork scrolls, buds and flowers, and enclosing a series of coral plaques throughout.
