A 19th century portrait miniature, Georgian lady in white bandeau and with pearl necklace. 74 mm x 60 mm, in ebonised frame with thistle hanger (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This miniature does appear to be painted on ivory with grain marks to the rear. It is generally in very good order. There are very slight blemishes to the face and also a slight kink to the top although this is not visible when looking at the image face on. This lot would probably benefit from a very light clean.
A portrait miniature, on ivory, Georgian gentleman initialled "DGE" and wearing a blue jacket and white cravat. 80 mm x 67 mm, in ebonised frame with leaf hanger. CONDITION REPORT: The image appears to be quite clean but would benefit from being taken apart and given a light dusting. There is very slight ripple to the ivory although this is barely visible when looking at the image face on.
A portrait miniature, Georgian gentleman wearing a blue coat and pink waistcoat, oval. 84 mm x 70 mm, in ebonised frame with star hanger (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This image appears to be painted on ivory and is in good order. There is a paint flake missing to the central left hand side although if the picture was remounted this could be easily hidden. The colours are still bright and vibrant.
A late 18th/early 19th century European ivory chess piece, depicting a king. Height 9 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This chess piece appears to be in generally good order. There are no losses to the piece. There is a black mark all around the base of the neck. We are not sure if the body and neck were originally made in two sections and then pegged together which would explain this black line. There is no evidence of any glued repair here. There are minor stress fractures to the ivory in places but as stated no losses.
