Mit Darstellung eines nach links über Gestein und Baumstümpfen jagenden Pferdes, auf dem ein unbekleideter Jüngling gebunden liegt, dahinter zieht ein morscher Baumstamm mit seitlichen knorrigen Ästen hoch. Am felsigen Boden Hund und ein liegender Wolf. Die figürliche Szene geht auf den Inhalt eines literarischen werkes von Lord Byron zurück, 1817/18 entstanden, für die Oper behandelt und von dem Maler Horace Vernet (1789-1863) gemalt unter dem Titel "Mazeppa und die Wölfe". Die Figurengruppe dem Gemälde gegenüber in seitenverkehrter Richtung. Was darauf schließen lässt, dass der Schnitzer nach einer Stichvorlage gearbeitet hat. (12511025) EXCEPTIONALLY RARE AND LARGE IVORY GROUP Overall height incl. ebonized base: 40 cm. Length of base: 51 cm. Depth of base: 31 cm. Erbach, 19th century. This figural subject is based on a poem by Lord Byron published in 1817/18. It was also adapted for opera and painted by Horace Vernet (1789-1863) and titled ''Mazeppa and the wolves''_. The figural group is shown inverted in comparison to the painting, which suggests that the carving artist was working from an engraving. Export restrictions outside the EU.

Prächtiger Elfenbeindeckelhumpen von Lorenz Berg, 1843 "" 1912 Höhe des Krugs: 37 cm. Gesamthöhe mit zugehörigem Sockel: 44 cm. Links an der Stufentreppe des Tempels signiert "L. Berg". Der Humpen, nach elegantem Gesamtentwurf, präsentiert sich auf einem zugehörigen ebonisierten und mit blattförmigen Elfenbeinfüßen gearbeiteten Sockel. Eingezogener Rundfuß mit Perlstabprofilen und Blattdekor, darüber leicht nach oben sich weitende runde Wandung, reich mit römisch-antiker Szenerie beschnitzt. Der kräftige Henkel nachezu C-bogig, mit Daumenrast in Form eines hochstehenden Blattes. Deckelbekrönung in Gestalt einer zwischen Sockeln sitzenden weiblichen Allegorie der Geschichtsschreibung. Die zu drei Viertel der Wandung umlaufende Szene zieht vom Flach- ins Hochrelief und zeigt die Stürmung des Tempels der Sabiner durch die Römer. An der Vorderseite eine nahezu ins Vollplastische ziehende Figur eines geharnischten Römers mit erhobenem Schwert, gegen den sich einer der Priester zu wehren sucht. Rechts eine Gruppe um Hilfe flehender Frauen, links der Altar der Sabiner mit dem "Ewig brennenden Feuer". Im Hintergrund die Säulenarchitektur des Tempels. Eine formal vergleichbare Darstellung findet sich in dem Gemälde des Johann Heinrich Schönfeld (1609-1682), um 1640, das sich in der Eremitage Sankt Petersburg befindet. Die bekrönende Sitzfigur hält eine Schreibtafel über dem Knie, einen Federkiel in der Hand, das Haupt mit Lorbeer bekränzt. Insgesamt zeigt sich sowohl der Aufbau, die künstlerische Gestaltung als auch die Feinheit der Elfenbeinschnitzerei von höchster Qualität. In tadelloser Erhaltung. Anmerkung: Der Elfenbeinschnitzer ließ sich in Offenbach am Main nieder und arbeitete ab 1888 für Gustav Karl Schubö (1839-1905) in Offenbach und wurde dessen Werkstattleiter. Berg unterhielt eine eigene Werktstatt, die 1911 von seinem Neffen Lorenz K.H. Chr. Berg weitergeführt wurde. Neben seinem Beruf als Elfenbeinschnitzer war er auch sozialliterarisch tätig. Eine Arbeit seiner Hand "Jagdstück" wurde im Deutschen Elfenbeinmuseum ausgestellt. 1984 wurde ein von ihm signiertes Elfenbeinrelief "Frühlingsglaube" verauktioniert. Das Offenbacher Abendblatt veröffentlichte am 17.07.1912 einen Nachruf auf den Elfenbeinschnitzer. (12506451) MAGNIFICENT LIDDED IVORY TANKARD BY LORENZ BERG, 1843 '''' 1912 Height of tankard: 37 cm. Umlaufender dichter figurativer Bacchantendekor mit Amoretten und Göttern inmitten von Festtafeln und fruktaler Dekoration. Niedriges Bord mit schwach ansteigender Fahne mit reliefierten Festons und Silberspangen. Die Kanne gefußt mit niedrigem Schaft als Faunsfiguren, die rücklings aneinander sitzen. Korpus durch drei Silberprofilreifen horizontal gegliedert mit figürlichem Griff, der in eine ziselierte Silbermontierung eingearbeitet ist, Weitlippiger Ausguss mit fast vollplastisch geschnitzten Figuren und einem auf einem Silberkopf sitzendem ganzfigürlichen Amor. Bedeutende, ungewöhnlich große Ahnenfigur der Senufo Höhe: 115 cm. Nördliche Elfenbeinküste. Figuren dieses Types wurden bei Tanzveranstaltungen als Rhythmusinstrumente verwendet, in der Regel von Frauen benutzt, die damit den Rhythmustakt trommeln. In dieser Größe außerordentlich selten, die stehende weibliche Figur mit prominenten Brüsten, die mit rechteckig angeordneten Tätowierungen gekennzeichnet sind, ein typisches Merkmal dieser Traditionsform sowie Initiationsnarben in der Nabelgegend. Der Kopf äußerst schön gestaltet, entsprechend den bekannten Senufo-Masken mit dem typischem Haarschopf. Solche "Déblé" genannten Figuren befinden sich nur in wenigen Sammlungen. Wiener Elfenbeinkabinett 41 x 38,5 x 25 cm. Silberelemente partiell mit Wiener Beschau. Wien, um 1880. Über vier in Silber gegossenen und partiell emaillierten Sphingen-Figuren der kastenförmige Korpus mit Risalit-artig hervorspringendem Mittelbau mit Doppeltür und darunterliegendem Schub. Hinter der Doppeltür drei Schübe. Flankiert wird der Mittelbau durch zwei hohe Schübe mit Maskaron-Zug. Allseits mit in Silberkartuschen eingelegte polychrom gestaltete Email Plaketten mit antikisierenden figuralen Szenen. Ecken mit vorgesetzten Lapislazulisäulen mit korinthischen Kapitellen und Lapislazulicachepots mit vollplastischen Blumenfüllungen in emailliertem Silber. Der Mittelbau überhöht durch verglaste Uhr und einem Blumenchacepot als Bekrönung. Ein Schlüssel und ein Uhrenschlüssel vorhanden. (1252033) Viennese ivory cabinet 41 x 38.5 x 25 cm. Louis XIV "" Reiseschatulle 9 x 39,5 x 32,5 cm. Frankreich, zweite. Hälfte 17. Jahrhundert. Ebenholz-, Nussbaum- und Obstholzfurnier, florale Intarsienverzierung, Elfenbeinintarsien partiell grün gebeizt. Rechteckiger Korpus mit Stülpscharnierdeckel. Deckelinwandige Anbringung eines goldgerahmten Spiegels, rosé Seidentapezierung sowie Compartiments für Utensilien. Diese kostbare Schatulle mit Einlegearbeiten aus einheimischen sowie exotischen Hölzern und Einlegearbeiten aus teils gebeiztem Elfenbein ist charakteristisch für die Schöpfungen von Pierre Gole (um 1620-1685), dessen Wurzeln "" wie unschwer an diesem Objekt zu erkennen ist "" in den Niederlanden liegen, jedoch ab 1640 in Paris wirkte. In seinem Nachlassinventar befanden sich auch Schatullen und Reiseschreibzeuge aus seiner Hand. Ebenholzgrund mit holändischen Blumen und umlaufendem Landschaftsdekor mit Hirschjagd.
