λ An early 18th century Italian tortoiseshell and gilt metal oval snuff box, the lid decorated with a piqué work and applied button cartouche, the interior of the lid inset with a late 18th century ivory portrait miniature after Angelica Kauffmann of the Queen of Naples Marie Caroline with her son, 8.9cm wide. Provenance: The Collection of the Late Lavinia Baird. The subject matter for the portrait miniature is probably taken from Angelica Kauffmann's monumental portrait of Ferdinand IV, King of Naples and Sicily and His Family, which can be found in the Museo di Capodimonte, Napoli.
