λ FOUR JAPANESE IVORY NETSUKE MEIJI 1868-1912 One carved as a lion mask with articulated jaw, another a man drinking sake and the third Fukurokuju with a boy on his back, all unsigned, the fourth depicting two sumo wrestlers, signed Shinnichi to the base, 5.3cm. λ A RARE CHINESE IMPERIAL LANDSCAPE DIORAMA QIANLONG 1736-95 In stained ivory, paper and glass, depicting figures in a river landscape with two ladies peeping through the door of a pavilion. The foreground with a small group of figures on two sampans and a trio of musicians by a pavilion under the shade of weeping willows serenading two scholars beside a tall rock. The frame glazed with a sheet of glass painted on the inside with clouds and a skein of geese, 58cm x 45.8cm. Provenance: an English private collection, Surrey. Cf. λ A RARE CHINESE LACQUE BURGAUTÉ RECTANGULAR SEWING BOX EARLY 19TH CENTURY The exterior decorated in mother of pearl with butterflies, fruit and flowers within key fret borders, the hinged lid inset with an ivory monogram 'ER' for Elizabeth Reeves (1808-1882), wife of John Russell Reeves, the inside lined with sandalwood compartments containing sewing implements in ivory and mother of pearl, and with a lower frieze drawer, 14.5cm x 41.5cm x 28.5cm. Provenance: acquired by John Russell Reeves (1804-1877), son of John Reeves (1774-1856) after his arrival in Canton in 1827, and thence by descent.

λ A LARGE CHINESE STAINED IVORY SNUFF BOTTLE 19TH CENTURY Finely carved with figures and pavilions between trees and rockwork, the borders of lotus petals and key fret at the neck and foot, the stopper decorated with chrysanthemum and scrolling foliage, 11.5cm. λ TWO CHINESE BAMBOO BRUSH POTS AND FOUR STANDS 19TH/20TH CENTURY The brush pots carved with figures in landscapes, dragons and animals, one stand inlaid with mother of pearl, another quatrefoil with elements of green stained ivory, the remaining stands carved with reticulated foliage to the sides, 39.4cm. λ A LARGE CHINESE IMPERIAL CARNELIAN-AGATE 'POMEGRANATE' DOUBLE VASE AND STAND QIANLONG 1736-95 Boldly carved with a fruiting branch of pomegranates picked out in reddish orange and with a smaller branch of peaches to the reverse. The double vase formed as sections of pine with lingzhi and bamboo issuing from the base, the green-stained ivory stand is carved with pine branches amongst rocks, 19cm overall. (2) Provenance: Arthur Wellesley Gosset (b.1837), and then a French private collection. Arthur Wellesley Gosset is recorded in The London Gazette upon entry into the British Army, 'Gent., to be Ensign, by purchase, vice Mulock. Dated 24th October 1856'. Cf.
