Yatagan. Osmanisch, wohl Kaukasus-Region, 19. Jahrhundert. L 75cm. Typische, leicht geschwungene Klinge mit beidseitiger, doppelter Kehlung am Rücken und beidseitig tauschiert mit Silbereinlagen, auf einer Seite die Datierung "1262" (=1846). Die eigentliche Klinge möglicherweise älter und hier zweitverwendet. Griffschalen mit typisch ausladenden Enden aus geschnitztem Walross-Zahn (?) jeweils mit vier Eisennieten befestigt. Die versilberte Metallmontierung an Klinge und Griff reich verziert mit Filigran und besetzt mit mehreren mandelförmigen Zierelementen aus Roter Koralle (?). Im Stil süd-russischer Einfluss erkennbar. Dabei eine nicht original zugehörige, etwas spätere Scheide aus versilbertem Zinkspritzguss, diese auf beiden Seiten vollflächig verziert mit Kartuschen mit Armaturen sowie anderen Darstellungen im Stil des Rokoko. Einige Beschädigungen und Reparaturen. Ottoman Yatagan. Typical, slightly curved blade with two narrow grooves on both sides along the back and inlaid with silver on both sides, the date 1262 (= 1846) on one side. The actual blade may be older and used a second time here. Grip scales with typically protruding ends made of carved walrus ivory (?), each one attached with four iron rivets. The silver-plated metal mounting on the blade and the grip is richly decorated with filigree and set with several almond-shaped decorative elements made of red coral (?). In the style South Russian influence is recognizable. Comes with a somewhat later silver-plated zinc scabbard that does not belong to the Yatagan originally and which is fully decorated on both sides with cartouches in the Rococo style.
