T. Houghton, an ivory cased brass folder for guinea and ½ guinea, c.1790, with single turn, the ivory case with applied silver-coloured roundel to the lid, with instructions label inside for 'T. Houghton, maker, Farnworth, Near Warrington, Lancashire', with two brass weights, the base of the case inscribed with ruler for 0 - 6 inches, with 1/8 inch divisions, 15.5cm Thomas Houghton (working for himself and for others 1771-died 1825) watch-tool maker, made the finest folders, encased so accurately that they did not rattle. The additional two weights were included so that users could demonstrate to doubters that the turn did check the guinea and half. CONDITION REPORT: the two brass weights are not thought to be original
