A carved D-section rectangular ivory panel with hatched reverse, notched border, scene of huntsmen and lions attacking each other, the hunters spearing the beasts some of whom lay dead with the weapons embedded. 85 grams, 14cm (5 1/2"). Property of a London lady, part of her family's Swiss collection; formerly acquired in the 1980s. Possibly not representing a hunt in the wild but a gladiatorial combat where bestiarii or venatores attack wild animals in the colosseum. [No Reserve] Fine condition, repaired.
