Late 18th century British school, a half-length miniature portrait of a gentleman in blue coat and lace cravat, holding a miniature portrait of a young lady, unsigned, wax seal and faint pen inscription to verso, oil on ivory panel feigned to oval, W. 7.3cm x H. 9.5cm. Provenance: By descent.
Late 18th century German school, an oval miniature head and shoulder portrait of a gentleman in gold trimmed red velvet coat, lace cravat and powdered hair, oil on ivory panel in gilt metal frame, H. 3.7cm x W. 3cm. Provenance: Christies, South Kensington, 19th March, 2002, sale no. 9339, lot no. 38. Exhibited: Hanover, Kestner-Gesellschaft, Bildnisminiaturen Aus Riedersächsischem Privatbesitz, 1918, no. 446 (lent by Dr. Leo Catzenstein, Hanover).
An early 19c red leather covered needlework box, fitted compartments and with base drawer, containing numerous ivory and mother of pearl tools and accessories, with needles and thread, having lion mask ring pull side handles. The box has been well used and the red leather does require some repair, the box 17""w.
A late 19c Oriental black lacquered needlework writing box, chinoisery decorated throughout, containing a needlework compartment fitted with ivory accessories and associated ivory needlework tools which include four table spool clamps and one table pin cushion clamp. The pull out writing drawer has hinged slope and pen and ink compartments, the box has side carrying handles and is supported on small carved paw feet, 14""w.
