A 19th Century French ivory circular pocket compass and thermometer, the central circular silvered dial surrounded by the curved mercury thermometer tube, the ivory base with black inscribed detail and dated `Paris 1838`, within a pierced border, diameter approx 10cm, with original leather case (some faults).
A Georgian field microscope by Banks of London. The lacquered brass microscope set in fitted mahogany case with square section post signed 'Bancks London'. The case fitted with five lenses numbered 1 - 5, three further lenses, adjustable brass bar, conical tubular lens, cylindrical ivory case, ivory disc, brass tweezers, brass bound slides and brass and steel specimen holder. The top of the case with screw fitting on which the microscope stands.

John Smart (1741/2-1811) `Young Lady in a Pale Turquoise Dress` Watercolour on ivory, 5.5cm high (oval miniature) signed and dated lower right: JS/1787/I Footnote: The capital `I` beneath the date indicates that Smart painted this miniature in India, where he spent the years 1785-1795, mainly in Madras.
Horace Hone (1754/6-1825 `A Young Man in Military Uniform` Watercolour on ivory, 4.6 cm high (oval miniature) signed (in monogram) and dated lower right: HH/1785 Footnote: The sitter is identified as `AM` in seed pearls on the reverse. The portrait is framed by a woven strap, the buckle also represented by seed pearls. Hone exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1772 and 1822. In 1795 he was appointed miniature painter to the Prince of Wales.
British School `Lady, Perhaps in Mourning Dress` Watercolour on ivory, 6.7 cm high (oval miniature), Footnote: There are two monograms, `MM` and `JM` on the plaited hair in the reverse of the frame. These suggest that the widow, if she is one, was painted as a marriage memorial. The date must be close to 1790.
George Engleheart (1750-1829) `A Naval Officer` Watercolour on ivory, 5.1 cm high (oval miniature) Footnote: Engleheart is one of the finest English miniaturists of his period. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1773 and 1822. In 1789 George IV appointed him his personal miniaturist. This miniature must date from the 1780s.
Unknown Miniaturist `Young Lady in a White Low-Cut Dress` Watercolour on ivory, 6.1 cm high (oval miniature) Footnote: The neo-classical dress indicates a date of about 1795-1800. The background represents a pale blue sky with pink-tinged clouds. The miniature is in exceptionally fresh condition.
