A good Georgian blued and gilt 1796 Pattern Cavalry Officer's sabre, 83.5cm curved blade by OSBORN, decorated with laurel wreaths, Royal Arms, maker's panel, crowned GR cypher, a figure of Britannia and owner's initials JM, all highlighted in gilt on a blued ground, regulation gilt stirrup hilt, wire bound ivory grip, contained in its gilt mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount with engraved maker's panel. The blade retains all of its original bright blued and gilt finish and polish, some staining to the tip. REPAIR TO STIRRUP GUARD ADJOINING POMMEL.
An Irish Yeomanry Cavalry Officer's blued and gilt sword, 76.5cm blade decorated with stands of arms, Royal Arms, crowned GR cypher, WARRANTED and a figure of a soldier, gilt stirrup hilt with lion's head pommel, chequered ivory grip, contained in its gilt mounted leather scabbard, the upper mount with maker's panel for Dublin, lower mount lacking. Blade patinated and with edge nicks. An old label, dated 1915 states that the sword was the property of Robert Armstrong who served in the Irish Yeomanry at the time of the Rebellion in 1798.

A late 19th Century Dutch Model 1882 Naval Officer's sword, 83cm curved pipe backed blade with spear point, etched with scrolling foliage, sailing ships and crowned fouled anchors and manufacturer's name YZERHOUWER, regulation foliate pierced brass hilt with lion's head pommel and wire bound ribbed ivory grip, complete with knot, contained in its brass and plated mounted black leather scabbard.

An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword, 76.cm curved blade decorated with a figure of Britannia, crowned GR cypher and Royal arms, patinated, copper gilt hilt, front part of guard lacking, bold lion's head pommel, chequered ivory grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted tooled leather scabbard, chape lacking. By family tradition this sword was "acquired" by the Irish Highwayman Captain James Freney, although this sword does post-date him, and it is more likely that this tradition applies to the following lot, lot 405.
