Plain terracotta field with indigo jewel pendant centre medallion filled with myriad of flowers repeated in the dark blue frame and spandrels; light blue main border and ivory guards. Close clipped wool in a rich palette with unexpected details such as the tiny tribesmen in the dark blue frame.

Pair of Chinese silk embroidered armbands, joined vertically to form one embroidery, late 19th/early 20th century, 20in. x 9in. 51cm. x 23cm. The walnut silk field embroidered principally in shades of pale blue and ivory with butterflies and flowers around two central peonies embroidered in Peking knot, within a brocaded silk ribbon border. Few watermarks in places.

Embroidered in ivory silk with flowers in each corner and along the borders. Few surface marks; the second a peach silk shawl, 37in. 94cm. Square embroidered in coloured silks with flowers in one corner; plaited silk fringing. Small hole/tear one corner; the third an Indian ivory silk gauze stole, 88in. x 19in. 224cm. x 48cm., embroidered in floss silks with a pyramid of floral motifs each end, narrow floral embroidered stripe to borders. Few time stains and small holes. (3)

Overall even wear; some repairs with small areas of re-piling in places; some corrosion to dark browns. Pale green mihrab with columns of flowerheads above the arch on a pale blue field; exceptionally ornate main border with dark brown secondary borders and narrow ivory guard stripes. Pale blue floral mihrab, the rounded prayer arch with inscription cartouche, outlined with inscriptions; cream bird, vase and flower spandrels above the prayer arch; ivory floral main border with pale green cartouches of inscriptions; pale blue and dark red floral guards.

Slight wear and crease marks in places. The second, 4ft. 1in. x 2ft. 11in. 1.25m. x 0.89m. Dark blue field with ivory design and outer border. Lacking top border. Early 19th century silk dress, with short sleeves and boned bodice, lacing at the back, the skirt open at the back. The green silk woven with tiny ivory and terracotta flowerheads on a delicate ivory trellis; lace trim to bodice, sleeves and back edges; satin facings to back edges and hem; pocket on left side of skirt. 17in., 43cm. Underarm to underarm, 11in. 28cm. Waist; 48in. 122cm. Long at back from neck edge to hem. Damage to bodice in places with crude repairs; lace trim loose in places.
Ersari Turkmen ensi, south west Turkmenistan, early 20th century, 5ft. 4in. x 3ft. 9in. 1.63m. x 1.14m. Overall wear; some crease marks in places; slight loss to ends; 'nicks' to sides in places. The four rectangles divided by a central 'curled leaf' motif bar; inner ivory stepped medallion 'U' shaped border and outer ivory sainak motif 'U' shaped guard; inner frieze at the lower end of pairs of part motifs in a diagonal design above a stepped medallion panelled elem. Cf. Jourdan, U. Op.cit. P. 278, pl. 251 for an almost identical example.
Pair Ersari Turkmen khalyks, south west Turkmenistan, circa 1930s-40s, each 5ft. 5in. x 2ft. 7in. Overall 1.65m. x 0.79m. Both with tassels. Curled leaf design on an ivory field. These weavings would have been used as decoration for the bridal carriage, or for the bridal camel in the wedding train, and are slightly different to similar weavings (kapunuks) for door surrounds. Yomut Turkmen 4 x 4 gul chuval face, Turkmenistan, first half 20th century, 2ft. 3in. x 4ft. 5in. 0.69m. x 1.35m. Overall wear with holes and repairs to lower left corner and other places. The guls divided by chemche motifs within a syrga motif ivory mainb border; the lower elem filled with diagonal rows of miniscule medallions. Pale blue details.
Tekke Turkmen 3 x 6 gul dip khali, Turkmenistan, circa 1930s-40s, 4ft. 11in. x 3ft. 3in. 1.50m. x 1m. Overall even wear; slight loss to ends and fraying to sides and lower right corner. The field enclosed by a uriuk (apricot blossom) gul main border, the narrow narrow elems each end with the dogdanm motif and a narrow ivory p8iled stripe each end.

Overall wear with spots of repiling in places; repaired crease mark to lower right side; losses to ends; fabric tape each end verso. Mid-blue field with a central column of quartered diamond shape medallions flanked by a single tree motif to each side; narrow 'S' motif ivory main border and pale blue flowerhead outer border.

Dark brown field with three medallions surrounded by various stags and other animals; green floral main border. The second: Erivan, mid-20th century, 4ft. 11in. x 3ft. 4in. 1.50m. x 1.02m. Surface marks. All over boteh on an ivory field; red and pale yellow floral guards. (2)
Unusual Karabakh prayer rug of cane design, south west Caucasus, early 20th century, 6ft. 5in. x 3ft. 10in. 1.96m. x 1.17m. Overall even wear. The stepped prayer arch emanating from the narrow ivory band to give the merest suggestion of a prayer rug; the polychrome narrow bands of ribbon and flower design, within a narrow black/brown outer floral border; the ends neatly stopped. Soft palette and soft handle.
Fachralo Kazak prayer rug, south west Caucasus, late 19th/early 20th century, 7ft. 3in. x 5ft. 6in. 2.21m. x 1.68m. Some wear in places; few small crease marks; long crease skilfully repaired upper left side; small reweave to inner guard top end; slight loss to lower end flatweave and slight unravelling of braid finish top left corner. Fabric tape each end verso. Lustrous wool with a rich palette enlivened by the use of a very pale blue and a light green with ivory outlining of the single medallion. Soft handle. Cf. Bennett, I. op. cit. pp. 44 & 45; pl. 25-27.
Fine Shirvan long rug featuring pairs of 'akstafa' peacocks, south east Caucasus, late 19th century, 10ft. 6in. x 4ft. 4in. 3.20m. x 1.32m. Overall even wear with corrosion to browns in places. Dark blue field with a very colourful rendition of the five medallions, alternately pale blue and bluey green with contrasting centres, the top four medallions all outlined in ivory featuring tiny animals; tiny leaves in the lower medallion; typical terracotta bar at each end; filler ornaments of pairs of Akstafa peacocks; other small birds, animals, flowers and medallions all within an ivory ivory leaf and calyx main border which degenerates at each end into single leaf motifs; terracotta guards. A rug with the same idiosyncratic rendition of the border is illustrated in Gardiner, Roger, Oriental Rugs from Canadian Collections, p. 64, pl. 27 where this type of rug is discussed at length; similarly, Bennett, I. op. Cit. pp. 210-211, pl. 259 in particular. Note: the rug has benefitted from a recent clean. Finely woven with soft handle.

Light red centre medallion on dark blue field with ivory spandrels; all over angular flowers and foliage; narrow ivory border. The third, Hamadan, 6ft. 5in. x 5ft. 8in. 1.96m. x 1.73m. Camel field with all over foliate design; narrow ivory border. All with varying degrees of wear; losses to ends; some crease marks. (3)

Very finely woven with three medallions on a dark blue medallion and ivory spandrels with all over floral boteh; red main border and pale yellow inner guard; outer yellow guard and ivory piled chequered stripe each end.

Three hooked medallions on a dark blue field. Overall wear; slight losses to ends. (3)
Qashqa'i ghileem horse blanket, Fars, south west Persia, first half 20th century, 5ft. 9in. overall x 4ft. 11in. 1.75m. x 1.50m. Holes in places, mainly on the left side; colour run in places. Polychrome woollen tufts to sides and few tufts to field. Dark blue field brocaded with all over peacocks; ivory main border of variously coloured goats.

Narrow ivory centre panel within a dark blue border of flowewrheads; striped the second a pillow face, plainweave back with flatweave end and closing loops; the second a pushti (pillow) face, 2ft. 1in. x 1ft. 2in. 0.64m. x 0.36m. Two panels with hooked centre medallion and narrow ivory border; the third a banded flatweave salt bag, 2ft. 3in. x 1ft. 7in., 0.69m. x 0.48m. With remains of tassels to the open sides. (3)

Ivory mihrab and spandrels with all over latticed flowering plants. The second, 6ft. 1in. x 3ft. 8in. 1.86m. x 1.12m. Light creamy/yellow field with three geometric medallions; pale blue border. The third, 5ft. 4in. x 3ft. 5in. 1.63m. x 1.04m. Red field with columns of flowerheads within narrow ivory medallion and star main border. (3)
