A Common Prayer Book with Ivory binding, in box.

A Cultured Pearl Necklace with a Diamond Cluster Clasp, ninety-one slightly off-round cultured pearls knotted to a clasp of an old oval cut diamond centrally within a border of ten old cut diamonds, in white millegrain settings, total estimated diamond weight 1.00 carat approximately, length 60cm The necklace is in good condition. The clasp is a little tight. It fastens with a tongue and box catch. It bears no hallmark, nor stamps, but in our opinion it would test as gold. The pearls graduate from 4.5mm to 8.5mm. The are a little pitted in places, with some uneven skins. They are ivory in colour, with pink tones. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour K/L/M, clarity SI2/I1/I2. The figure loose on the base due to a replacement nut. The base slightly uneven, otherwise in good order with clear marks. The head loose. 020513

A Victorian Ebonised Dressing Case, containing silver gilt fittings, maker`s mark JH (probably John Harris), London 1851-52, retailed by W West, Manufacturer to Her Majesty, Prince Albert & The Royal Family No.1 St James`s Street, for George Cadogan, 3rd Earl Cadogan, the brass edged plain rectangular case with the Earl`s monogram centred on the lid, jewellery drawer to the fascia, revealing a blue velvet lined interior with lift-out tray containing twelve deep cut glass vessels, including those for powder, toothbrush, ink, scent and a cylindrical beaker (9cm), also utensils including two scissors, propelling pen/pencil, and a monogramed ivory hand mirror beneath the lid, each with foliate engraved detail around the Earl`s monogram within a circlet of cabochon turquoise stones, the case with Bramah locks and retailer`s plaque, original key with bone fob inscribed Lord Frederick Cambridge, 37cm by 27cm by 20.5cm Admiral George Cadogan was a prominent British Royal Navy officer and politician of the mid-nineteenth century who first gained notoriety for his service in the Adriatic campaign of the French Napoleonic Wars in command of HMS Havannah. One 9cm circular jar with large chip on foot, the other has tiny chips to the upper shoulder. One of the pair of rectangular boxes with bad crack right through and bad angle crack, the other with serious angle chips. Of the pair of scent bottles - both have general tiny chips here and there throughout, and several `dings` (ie small bruises) to the walls. One has a chipped internal stopper. The whisky flask with bad crack in shoulder running right down body through wall and internal stopper cracked. Small circular jar with one turquoise cabochon smaller than the others and faded, and one other similar. Tiny nick in the silver gilt cover on rim. Button hook reglued at the ferrule. Propelling tongue scraper possibly foreshortened. Utensil tray scruffy. Velvet degraded and may have been splashed with perfume. The bottom drawer is now missing the ratcheted writing surface, the brackets may be slightly damaged on one side, and the wooden moulding holding in the sliding mechanism is also slightly broken and piece not retained. Blotter pad bent on one corner severely and very scruffy on another. The case itself is veneered and has drying cracks throughout. General scratches and wear and tear to the angles. Front right basal cracks. Lower fascia drawer cracked. Please note there are numerous items of complex manufacture - this condition reports attempts to describe the majority of faults, but this is not necessary comprehensive and other small faults may exist. 290513

Some general browning on the reverse and also on the head. Crack through the fruiting branch in her hand. A Chinese Carved Export Ivory Crocodile Ball on Stand, Canton, circa 1900, the 5.5cm diameter sphere carved all over with numerous small crocodiles, on a stand with cup support and pierced and carved dragon stem, on foliate edged circular base, 17.5cm high The sphere itself with some brown (quite dark brown) staining particularly to one side. One or two of the crocodile snouts have been snubbed/chipped. The ivory is rather dry. Stand with slight staining, but piercements all intact, just some slight chipping to the foliate apron on the foot. 210513

A Chinese One Piece Carved Elephant Ivory Figure of a Maiden, circa 1930, the slender enrobed maiden with elaborate chignon with phoenix bird hair ornament, serene downward expression and holding a flower stem in both hands, 31cm high, on circular wood base Cracked and reglued on left wrist. Flower stem broken and reglued in her left hand. The black pigment of her hair has mostly fallen away and is patchy. Hair ornament bird cresting cracked and some light drying cracks, and drying cracks in the face, forehead etc, cracked along the tail. A general dryness to the ivory body throughout, and subtle overall browning. Wood base chipped along the flange generally and is dry and stained. Sold a/f. 210513

A Japanese Carved Elephant Ivory Group of a Farmer and Boy, late Meiji period (1868-1912), the farmer sits on a large basket of fruits, admiring a bunch of fruit held in his left hand, as a delighted little boy looks on, vegetables in another basket at their side, incised and inset red kakihan on the underside, 12.5cm high, on associated ebonised wood scroll plinth Small chip to the rear sandal on the right foot of the little boy. Some signs of regluing to the smaller basket of fruits and possibly where it is reattached to the larger basket. Slight chips to the ropes that dangle from the large basket on the left corner. Otherwise, the figure is in reasonable overall state. 210513

A Japanese Walrus Ivory Composite Figure of a Woodman, circa 1910, carrying his axe and a bundle of faggots on his back, smiling, a fledgling in a basket at his waist, another at his feet, unsigned, 34.5cm high Small parts lacking. Signs of glue on his right shoulder. Some slight chips and globs of glue at the faggot ends. The figure has been reglued around the waist. The string from the basket at his waist now missing where it attached to the basket. The chick at his foot appears to have lost part of its right wing. There is an empty socket hole in the rustic base (ie part missing). Drying cracks in the base and general drying cracks throughout, mainly in the left arms section. A Tokyo School Elephant Ivory Okimono as a Fisherman, by Udagawa Kazuo, circa 1910, standing and leaning forward holding a bamboo handled fishing rod and with forward gaze, a large basket slung over his shoulder, a creel at his waist, on a rustic tusk section oval plinth base, 27cm high, the base with incised and stain character mark Udagawa Kazuo was listed as a member of the Toyko Sculptors Society. He was an artist from the second generation of the Toyko School and exhibited at the major exhibitions of his time. He also exhibited at major overseas exhibitions, including the Paris Great Exposition Award-Winning Section One in Meiji 33 (1900). St Louis Exposition in Meiji 37 (1904), award winning section: and in 1910 at the Japan-British Exhibition in London, also award winning section. Figure 2 - her thumb on her right hand is missing (piece not retained). There was originally a pouch/inro suspended from her belt. Other minor tiny cracks and chips. 310513

A Japanese Carved Wood and Ivory Mounted Large Figural Okimono, late Meiji period (1868-1912), of a young girl peeling a vegetable, her chignon held by a comb, seated in a kimono on a tatami mat resting on two baskets containing further vegetables, and bare foot, 46cm high, upon an associated openwork pierced table stand of rounded rectangular form, the rails carved with pairs of birds amongst waves and scrolls, on incurved feet linked by shaped stretchers, 43cm by 30.5cm by 16cm Figure with numerous serious drying cracks on the head (some run through the face). Some drying cracks in the collar of the kimono. Further drying cracks in the limbs, hands and vegetable being peeled. Parts of the peeler knife missing (pieces not retained). Fragment of ivory on her knee which may have been a larger piece? (piece not retained and signs of glue). Some further drying cracks in wood. Cracks in both feet. Also drying cracks to fruits (which are ivory) in the basket. Some chipping along the ends of the tatami mat. The stand has been reglued and probably some new screws holding it steady. Small filler and small repairs. On the main table there are two small circular plug repairs. 030613

A Japanese Carved Elephant Ivory Bridge of Eleven Elephants, Meiji period (1868-1912), each graduated elephant conjoined to the next in various poses, upon a carved hardwood rock effect long plinth, the bridge 69cm, the base 78.5cm long The ivory has absorbed some dirt and could do with a light clean. Slight drying cracks to four or five elephants` sides, but all trunks and ears appear to be intact. The base is dry and has become discoloured and loss of varnish. 310513

Netsuke - slightly browning to the underside with drying cracks on the shoulder of the animal. Lotus 1 - with small frog, bad drying crack across himotoshi and beyond. A Japanese Lacquer Decorated Half Egg Shell Bowl, late Meiji period (1868-1912), internally decorated with three fish amongst chrysanthemums in tones of gold and silver against a black ground, externally with black squid and a slender fish amongst scattered sea shells, the whole raised on three shell carved feet, 6cm high, 14.8cm wide Some rubbing of the black ground on the interior background lacquer. Lacquer stress crack across the largest of the fish. 3cm crack in the egg shell on the rim. Rubbing of gilding on the rim and generally light rubbing and scuffing. All three of the shell carved feet (which are stained ivory) are good. Some scuffing of the shell gold lacquer. 210513

Seven Lathe Turned Elephant Ivory Boxes, 19th century, the largest a snuff box, the lid inset with a bust length portrait miniature of a young woman with elaborate coiffure, a pair of earrings and an embroidered dress with puff sleeves, 10cm diameter, the remaining six boxes (one lacking top panel) with decorative turnery throughout, the largest 7cm diameter, the smallest 2.7cm diameter Miniature box - the miniature has become very dirty, particularly on the lower half, some rubbing and losses on the upper section - the face of the sitter and hair remain good. The bottom of the base is loose and currently held on with selotape, require restoration. Remaining boxes - the largest has chips on the rim, 2nd largest has cracks, the remainder good, with slight discolouration. The taller circular section slim example has the top ivory panel missing. 290513
