An early Victorian Ivory handled presentation Trowel, the blade with engraved scrolling foliate detail and bearing an inscription “The Fist Brick of Coltishall National Schools, Laid 25th August 1845, by Susan, Wife of R P Kemp of Coltishall Manor House, Norfolk”, to a scrolling cast mount and acanthus leaf feral, to a turned and baluster handle with ball finial, length 14”, London 1838, Makers Mark EB & JB
A fine late 18th Century Ivory handled and silver mounted hange, Sword and Scabbard, the handle carved in the form of a lions head and with reeded lower section, its mouth open, issuing a foliate decorated knuckle guard and with acorn finial, a scalloped quillion, to a 22 ¾” steel blade (traces of blueing) with double fullers, to a stitched leather scabbard with silver mounts, total length 28 ½”
A fine 17th century Spanish polychrome and gilt decorated vargueno on chest, the upper section applied with engraved ivory panels and velvet backed wrought iron strapwork mounts, with side carrying handles, the fall front with an elaborate lock plate and clasp, enclosing an architectural polychrome and gilt decorated interior, with thirteen drawers around a central door enclosing three further drawers, the lower section with recess panelled sides and wrought iron carrying handles, the front with two lopers with carved shell terminals, above four geometric mitred, polychrome and parcel gilt decorated drawers, on turned bun feet, 158cm high, 109cm wide, 46cm deep. See Sotheby’s, New Bond Street, 29th October 2003, lot 181 for a similar vargueno on chest which is not as complete as the Boarsney house example and Sotheby’s, New York, 19th May 2006, lot 45 for a vargueno on an open stand with a similarly decorated interior.
