A ivory and silver mounted figural chess set, maker`s mark `ST` (not traced), Birmingham 1975, one side with Napoleon and Josephine as the king and queen representing France, the opposing with Wellington and Victoria representing Great Britain, each bust on a silver stem with disc base mounted with moonstones (France) and amethysts (Great Britain), the kings 9.7cm (3 7/8in) high; with a silver coloured mounted, wood veneered and leather covered board, incised with `NM` conjoined and dated (19)74, 37cm (14 1/2in), in a leather pouch; the pieces contained in a refurbished cutlery boxCatalogue amendment: The ST initials belonged to Steven Trickey who first registered in 1961 as a Gold & Silversmith in Gifts and Crafts (information kindly supplied by Birmingham Assay Office).
