A pair of miniature paintings on ivory, probably early 20th century, both depicting classical female figures in clouds, surrounded by seven playful Putti, signed with monogram MF, in rectangular square shouldered ormolu frames, the upper area with cabochon cartouche and tied bow surmount, each side with floral and foliate trails, acanthus decoration to lower section finished with floral swag, on scrolled acanthus feet, 3 x 2¼in. (7.6 x 5.7cm.). (2) * Condition: Excellent condition. No visible signs of wear.
An ivory and tortoiseshell box, 20th century, probably French, of barbed serpentine form, the hinged lid with two oval inset miniature watercolour on ivory portraits, the left of a regal gentleman in fawn jacket and cravat, his hair in a tied plait, the left of finely dressed lady in ruffed collar dress with pearl arm bands, 9 x 5½in. (22.75 x 14cm.).
A collection of silver and silver-gilt Masonic jewels, first half 20th century, including a silver gilt and enamel oval 'Bengal' jewel from Lodge Humility with Fortitude no. 229 E.C., Fort William, Calcutta, c.1938; a fine quality Wor. Master jewel from the same Lodge with enamelled elephant plaque, c.1933; a Chapter Holy Zion no. 486 E.C. silver gilt jewel; and eight others. (11) * Condition: All but one in good condition, with no damage. The exception (1908 Diamond Jubilee jewel) - on this the ivory silk has shattered. Otherwise good.
A 19th century tortoiseshell card case, rounded rectangular form, side hinged lid with push button release to right side, engraved mother of pearl panels, the front depicting an Oriental river scene with swooping bird and willow tree on mound, the reverse with a peacock amidst a floral and foliate surroundings, 4¼ x 3in. (10.8 x 7.6cm.). * Condition: 10mm piece of ivory missing to front underside of lid. Minor scratching to lid on peacock side. Two small cracks to hinge area 10mm and 6mm.
An ivory cased etui, early 19th century, oval ivory case with inlaid vacant reserve to centre, interior contents to include bodkin with balloon form finial, scissors and waisted form needle case, all with machined finish, brass lock with engraving to upper surface reading 'Tahan, Fr de Lempr', 4¾ x 2½in. (12 x 6.5cm.). * Condition: Velvet inner stained and dirty, thimble missing, rust on metal tool parts, light staining on ivory, small piece of ivory missing next to inlay top 3 o'clock.
Two African ivory clubs, 19th century, one of knobkerrie form, the cylinder form handle with slight curvature into a bulbous head bearing clay infill to both sides, 14½in. (36.8cm.) long; the second of cylindrical form with slight curvature above a narrower waisted form handle, 17in. (43.1cm.) long. (2)
A pair of 18th or early 19th century stumpwork pictures, depicting exotic Oriental pheasants perched in trees, worked in polychrome silks and stitched onto an ivory silk ground with stitched patterning, within a scalloped border of blue silk cord with applied gilt card foliate sprigs, 25½ x 18¼in. (64.75 x 46.5cm.), in 19th century gilt frames. (2) * Condition: Both have faded colours throughout and both silk grounds are time stained, particularly around the silk stumpwork appliques. There is no visible insect damage and there are splits or holes to the silk. There are some minor losses to the frames.
A near complete Chinese carved ivory chess set, early 20th century, red stained and natural, modelled as Emperors and Empresses, bishops as mandarins, knights on horseback, rooks as elephants surmounted by flagged turret and mahout, pawns as soldiers, baluster form stems into counter form feet, the kings 11.5cm. high, the pawns 5.3cm. high. (30) * Condition: Significant losses to pawns (mainly swords), white and red rooks missing, white knights swords missing.
A 1960s Beatles toy New Sound Guitar by Selcol, red and ivory plastic with printed portraits and signatures of the band, with original coloured strings and diecast tuning pegs, 22¾in. (58cm.) long. * Condition: Some scratching to plastic on back of guitar. Some scuffs and light scratches to plastic to front panel as well and some tiny dings and scratches to lower edge of ivory front panel. Small smudge from bottom of 'B' of 'Beatles' (from the making) and another smudged line across Ringo's hair and left eye. Hairline crack to plastic to both edges of ivory front panel, just above the 'S' shaped sound holes. Strings and pegs original and undamaged.
A good mahogany cased cake knife and fork set, early 20th century, six place, with carved ivory bamboo effect handles and floral engraved blades and tines, the fitted mahogany case with gilt lined maroon velvet and pleated silk interior. * Condition: Minor surface corrosion to plated handle mounts. Plating flake from edge of one knife blade, small corrosion spot to reverse on another. Ivory handles have a few brown stain spots. One knife handle with browning to top half. Case in very good condition, with key. Some tarnish spots to lacquered brass cartouche to lid.
A Royal Worcester twin handled pot pourri jar and cover, of waisted circular form, with twin scroll handles, pierced cover with leaf and acorn finial and fluted circular rim and base, painted with sprays of roses and forget-me-nots on a blush ivory ground, printed puce mark, date code 1913, 4½in. (11.5cm.) high. * Condition: Good condition, with no defects.
A Chinese export lacquered work box, early 19th century, of canted rectangular form, decorated with chinoiserie scenes within floral diaper borders, side swing handles, the fitted interior with various carved ivory and bone sewing accessories, a single drawer beneath similarly fitted, raised on gilt foliate paw feet, 14 x 10½in. (35.5 x 26.5cm.). * Condition: Exterior decoration good overall, but some rubbing to edges and wear to gilt on lid. Minor wear elsewhere. Lock has been forced - lock plate from lid still attached to lock although now open. Small indent to lid & base from where it was prised open.Two chips to lacquer from edge above drawer. Two feet (to left side) replaced - one of the original detached feet is inside the box. Interior largely complete and in good condition. Three of the pierced ivory corner pieces are loose and the other has a small split. Drawer has a lidded compartment - the lid is hinged and one hinge is broken.
A pair of Chinese carved ivory figures of horses, early 20th century, the horses standing with heads raised, the carved saddles and tasselled harnesses inset with cabochon turquoise and coral, 3½in. (9cm.) high; together with two Chinese polychrome painted carved ivory horses, one with mounted rider and fo dog, a/f, 6in. (15cm.) high, the other with elaborate saddle and harness, 4¼in. (10.75cm.) high, three with later hardwood stands. (4) * Condition: - Pair: In good condition, both with old hairline cracks to belly.- Mounted horse: Rider's raised hand has been off and glued back. Some paint wear all over. - Single horse: Some paint wear all over.
A Chinese three piece horn and tortoiseshell part dressing table set, early 20th century, the tortoiseshell hand mirror and two lidded boxes each with applied oval pierced horn decoration depicting a coiled dragon, the mirror 10¼in. (26cm.) long; together with a plain ivory card case and a carved ivory lidded trinket box. (5)
A Japanese Chato (Tea Sword), late 19th / early 20th century, rustic wood and ivory tsuka with pewter inlay of rain dragons, in conforming scabbard bearing a ring hanger verso with side deposit holding a horn handled kozuka, old collection number label to one side, 17¾in. (45.1cm.) long. * Condition: Good patina and colour. Kozuka a later replacement. Main blade and ivory to scabbard terminal also possibly later. Small split to ivory end piece on scabbard (hidden by kozuka when in place). Ivory at top of tsuka handle split in two places - one split has old iron staple repair.
A Japanese Sagemono, Meiji period, leather with silk overlay depicting a dragon amidst clouds, centralised silver dragon appliqué to front, twin compartment interior with wave engraved catch plate, with belcher chain attached Kagamibuta silver and ivory netsuke, manju form with inset dragon disc, the purse 5¼in. (13.4cm.) wide. * Condition: Good condition overall. Small worns patches to silk to corners of purse, and some minor wear to edges. Some fading to pale purple silk to front. Silver plating to rivet heads worn. Some wear to interior edges. Silver and netsuke in good condition.
A finely carved Japanese ivory netsuke, Meiji period (1868-1912), depicting a street vendor selling wares from a basket clasped between his crossed legs, his left arm raised with hand gripping a short staff with attached purse, single character mark to base, 1¼in. (3.2cm.) high. * Condition: Good condition with no damage.
A Japanese carved ivory netsuke, Meiji period (1868-1912), with three leverets playing amongst toadstools, on naturalistically carved base, the leverets with glass eyes, two character signature to stem of one of the toadstools, 2½ x 2in. (6.4 x 5.1cm.). * Condition: Scratch to top of two toadstools and another to one leveret's ear. No other damage. Good condition overall.
A pair of Japanese miniature cloisonné bottle vases, flared long neck with moth and floral decoration, with hardwood linked stands, together with a carved ivory angel fish netsuke, a/f. (3) * Condition: Two bad impact marks and loss of 5mm enamel patch to first vase, 3mm impact to second vase. 12mm piece of ivory missing to dorsal fin of fish.
Two Japanese shibayama and black lacquer jewellery boxes, 20th century, rectangular, the larger decorated with two finely attired females and a palm tree in mother of pearl and ivory, in a gilt painted garden, the smaller box similarly decorated, both fitted interiors in turquoise silk, the larger 12 x 8in. (30.5 x 20.3cm.), the smaller 8 x 6in. (20.3 x 15.3cm.). (2) * Condition: Shibayama has no losses. One of the lady's heads on the larger box has some rubbing on the ivory, and there are three small chips to the wood around the lock (only visible when opened). Some wear to gilt painting and a few minor flakes to lqceuer. Interiors good, but smaller has some foxing to silk.
A Chinese carved malachite figure of a bird, probably early 20th century, the well carved figure perched upon a pierced naturalistic rocky base with a bud laden vine held in its beak, 6¼in. (6cm.) high, on an oval pierced ivory-style stand. * Condition: In good condition, with just two tiny edge chips to underside of base and a few minute (<1mm) frits to front of rockwork and edges of vine. No other damage. Natural flaw marks to lower part of right wing. Detached from base - minor resulting glue residue to base of malachite.
A finely carved Japanese ivory okimono, Meiji period (1868-1912), of an actor in aggressive stance, wearing a grotesque mask in portrayal of a demonic figure, his costume armour decorated in Shibayama on an intricate swirling circlet ground, short orange glass club held in his right hand, two character mark in inlaid red plaque to base, 4½in. (11.5cm.) high, with circular hardwood stand. (2) * Condition: Loss to front left corner of base and large chip missing from top of left shoulder decoration. Chip to end of right eyebrow. Extended fingers missing from left hand. Some small losses from Shibayama.
A Japanese lacquered inro, 19th century, gilt lacquer with finely decorated forested landscape scene, four compartments with nashiji finish interiors, acorn form ojime with counter form bi-sectional shibayama ivory netsuke held on original plaited cord, 2¾ x 2in. (7 x 5.1cm.). * Condition: Inro has some wear to finish throughout. No damage to compartments. Netsuke lacks approx. 50% of shibayama inlay.
A lacquered wood Japanese inro, late 19th century, four compartment, black lacquer with gilt decoration of trees and birds, character marks to lid interior, 3in. (7.6cm.) high, with attached carved ivory netsuke modelled as a recumbent cow or water buffalo, 1½in. (3.8cm.) long. * Condition: Inro in poor condition, with edge chipping throughout, new string to attach netsuke and wear to decoration. Netsuke in good condition with no damage.
Two Japanese ivory netsukes, 19th century, one depicting a male dancing with a fan, dressed in a robe tied with bow to back, 2in. (5.2cm.) high; the second as a female with teapot opposite a male figure drinking from a large cup, signature to base, 1¾in. (4.5cm.) long. (2) * Condition: Man with fan: Made in two sections of ivory - the joint has become unglued. Otherwise good with good patina.Couple: Good cdn., with no damage.

An Indian carved sandalwood and damascened writing slope, 19th century, elaborate relief carved floral and foliate panels with temples, leopards and birds within damascened and ivory borders, hinged lid to upper surface opening to reveal various deposits for writing implements, inkwells etc, hinged fall front writing slope with purple velvet surface, 14 x 10in. (35.6 x 25.4cm.). * Condition: Carved panels fine, some losses to ivory and damascened borders, severe in places.
A 19th century satinwood secretaire cabinet, the open back with open shelves and single cupboard doors with arched inlaid tulipwood panels, divided by turned tapered pilasters and surmounted by ebonised rosette finials, over a cross banded fiddleback satinwood veneered top, above one long and two short cross banded drawers, the centre drawer a fitted secretaire with an arrangement of five satinwood drawers and three pigeonholes over a shaped baize writing surface within satinwood banding, the base with a pair of gilt grille insert doors with ivory silk, enclosing a divided, shelved interior, flanked by baluster turned tapered columns, raised on turned toupie feet, 69in. (175cm.) high, 49½in. (126cm.) wide, 20in. (51cm.) deep.
Maud Naftel (British, 1856-1890), A farmer and daughter harvesting on the Sark cliffs, overlooking Herm, Jethou and Guernsey , watercolour, heightened with white, signed and dated 1884 lower right , 9¾ x 13 3/8in. (24.75 x 34cm.). * Condition: Very good, clean and bright condition overall. Colours strong with no fading. Minor light browning to paper to sky, slightly more notably to the right hand side around Jethou and Herm. Slight 'crazing' to paint to top inch or so of sky, which appears to be a deliberate technique by the artist as it is consistent acorss the work. In a modern good quality 19th century style foliate gilt frame with lined ivory mount.
