Terry & Co, London, 1829, 'This medal is awarded by Mr Turner to Mr John Pearson in testimony of his having distinguished himself as an anatomical student of the first class' session of 1827 & 1828, in original Morocco leather case, 6cm. Sold with a watercolour on ivory miniature portrait of John Pearson attributed to Tom Faed verso, 11cm x 9cm overall. Thomas Turner was an English surgeon who established a medical school in Manchester.

A mid 19th century carved ivory triptych figure of Joan of Arc, probably Dieppe, dressed in warrior robes, holding a cross and a sword and with jewelled detail, her hinged skirt opening to reveal a triptych depicting pivotal scenes from her life, 23.5cm high (at fault) CONDITION REPORT: Please note: Trevanion & Dean does not ship items containing ivory outside the EU. One of the feathers of the helmet plume has been broken and glued back. A few hair line cracks, light yellowing but overall ok.
Two interesting 18th century Italian mandolins within a bespoke period case; Fine Neapolitan mandolin by Giovanni Vinaccia of Naples 1764, the body with twenty-three fluted maple ribs and a scrolling capping strip, the table inset with a tortoiseshell plaque above the bridge and tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl inlay below the bridge, the sound hole surround with mother-of-pearl stylised animals set in tortoiseshell, with ivory and ebony edging, the back of the neck, fingerboard and head overlaid with tortoiseshell, bone and ebony, ten metal frets on the fingerboard and further four on the table, four double courses of strings, reverse pegs, length 21¾", 55.2cm, labelled: Joannes Vinaccio Filius Januarii fecit Neapoli alla Rua Catalana A.D. 1764 Good Neapolitan mandolin of the Vinaccia school, from the third quarter of the 18th century, unlabelled, the back of nineteen maple ribs with shaped capping strip, the table with a hardwood plaque inlaid above the bridge and mother-of-pearl inlay below the bridge, the sound hole surround with shaped mother-of-pearl segments set in a dark hardwood, the ebony fingerboard inlaid with mother-of-pearl plaques, ten brass frets on the fingerboard and three wooden frets on the soundboard, four double courses of strings with reverse pegs, length 22¼", 56.5cm Double mandolin case, Italian, mid-18th century, pine leather-bound bound with lattice toolwork , the interior lined with green baize and with original decorative papers, one accessory compartment, brass carrying handles and shaped brass lock escutcheon *These mandolins are clearly not a pair as such and are of slightly different sizes. Nevertheless, the apertures in the case are designed to fit each instrument precisely
An early 20th century Cantonese carved ivory box, 7 cm wide, a similar carved elephant, other ivory and ivorine items (qty) Condition report Report by GHOn the elephant some natural hairline cracking to ivory but no obvious chips or damage.Weight 227.4 g.The pair of vases: one of them has some chipping and loss to the pierced base. Otherwise good. Weight 296.7 g.The small group with the putti on the sledge has some damage to the back leg of one of the figures which has been re-glued. The base also has a couple of chips. Weight 95.7 g. The small square box is generally falling to pieces where the glue has failed in the joints but does not appear to be damaged.Overall weight is 42.1 gThe figure holding the staff does not have any damage and weighs 50.9 g.The other items are artificial.
