Äquatorial-Klapp-Sonnenuhr Leonhard Miller 1611signiert Lienhart Miller und datiert 1611, klappbares hochrechteckiges Gehäuse aus Elfenbein, graviert und farbig gefasst, Messingmontierungen, Grundplatte mit rundem Horizontalzifferblatt mit Stundeneinteilung, in die ursprünglich ein Kompass eingelassen war, der scharnierte Deckel trägt innen ein vertikales Zifferblatt mit Stundeneinteilung, als Schattenwerfer diente ein zwischen den beiden Platten gespannter Faden, mit dem verschiedene Polhöhen eingestellt werden konnten, zusätzlich sind oberhalb des vertikalen Zifferblatts auf waagerechten Linien die Tierkreiszeichen mit den jeweiligen Tageslängen angegeben, unterhalb des runden Horizontalzifferblattes sind zwei weitere Zifferblätter ins Elfenbein graviert, von denen eines die italienischen Stunden, das andere die babylonischen Stunden zeigt, die Deckelaußenseite zeigt eine floral verzierte sechzehnteilige Windrose, die Unterseite der Grundplatte trägt eine kreisförmige Umrechnungstabelle für Mond- und Sonnenstunden, nicht ganz komplett, Altersspuren, Maße 9 x 5,5 cm. Info: Miller wurde 1580 geboren und ist nach 1652 verstorben, er war tätig zwischen 1602 und 1651, eine vergleichbare Arbeit Millers findet sich u.a. in der Sammlung des Landesmuseums für Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte Oldenburg. Equatorial Folding Sundial from 1611by Leonhard Miller, signed Lienhart Miller and dated 1611, engraved and colored foldable upright rectangular case made of ivory with brass mountings, base plate with round horizontal dial and hour division, in which originally a compass was embedded, the hinged lid has a vertical inside dial with hour division, a thread stretched between the two plates served for a throwing a shadow, with which different pole heights could be set, in addition the zodiac signs with the respective day lengths are indicated above the vertical dial on horizontal lines, below the round horizontal dial are two further dials engraved in the ivory, one of which shows the Italian hours, the other the Babylonian hours, the outside of the lid shows a sixteen-part compass rose with floral decorations, the underside of the base plate carries a circular conversion table for moon and sun hours, signs of age, not quite complete, dimensions 9 x 5.5 cm. Info: Miller was born in 1580 and died after 1652, he was active between 1602 and 1651, a comparable work by Miller can be found among others in the collection of the State Museum of Art and Cultural History Oldenburg.
