Peter Clare Manchester - A George III mahogany and satinwood bracket clock, twin train movement with engraved circular backplate and single bell, the case of caddy form inlaid with an arched fretwork plate with blue under plate, the circular dial with Roman numerals and signed Peter Clare, Manchester, on four brass ball feet and surmounted with brass ball finial, etched glass back plate and ivory escutcheon to one side, two keys,pendulum of provenance from Willersley Of Worsley. Dimentions 54cm high, 15cm deep max, including frame for glass frontice, case is 14cm deep, 26.5cm max wide at base. **The letter concerning the Peter Clare bracket clock is written on printed note paper headed Willersley, Worsley - which may relate to Willersley Castle, the construction of which was commission by Sir Richard Arkwright the great industrialist who developed the water frame with revolutionised the cotton milling industry.

CONDITION REPORT Some age-related wear, slight loss of gilding in small areas, no cracks or chips or evidence of restoration. Diameter of bowl 30cm.
A 19th century Siamese carved ivory seal in the form of a stupa, the red-stained base carved with a deity amongst flames holding a sword and a book (possibly), height approx 6.3cm, base diameter 4.5cm. CONDITION REPORT Probable loss to the top, minor chip to the fourth concentric circle down, otherwise usual wear commensurate with age, carved base is good.

A 19th Century political and artist interest inkwell, constructed from a large chip of wood mounted with silver plated feet and brackets surmounted with a silver plated inkwell given to the sculptor Albert Toft by Prime Minister William Ewart Gladstone accompanied by a paper note inscribed that this was the last tree chopped down by Gladstone and given to Toft by Gladstone on leaving Hawarden Castle on September 18th 1887. 15 cm x 6.5 cm x 8 cm. Albert Toft's sculpture of Gladstone was modelled from life and acclaimed as one of the best of the subject, together with a 19th Century ivory hand mirror (2)
