Illustrated Footnote: In Dodderidge's biography of Colonel James Gardiner he states that Whitney is recorded as taking part in the Battle of Falkirk Muir on 17 January 1746, having succeeded to Gardiner's command of the 13th Dragoons. His commanding officer General Henry 'Hangman' Hawley made the mistake of launching an unsupported cavalry attack upon the Highlanders; "a blunder which lost the English the battle and Whitney his life".

They lived at Ballibay, County Monaghan, and had three children; Peter Henry Leslie (b 1755)- died in the American wars Catherine Letitia Leslie (d 1814) Charles Albert Leslie.

She died on 26 August 1884. Their elder son Robert Charles Leslie (Lot 2446), of Ballibay, D.L., inherited Ballibay and assumed by Royal Licence, 1885, the name and arms of Leslie. He married Charlotte Philippa Mary Kelso (Lot 2447), daughter of Capt. Edward Kelso. of Kelsoland and Horkesley One son Theodore Barrington Norman Leslie (Lot 2448) an officer from a Rifle Brigade who died in South African War 1899.
