Jacob Kirkman (1710-1792) A two-manual Harpsichord, London 1763, the case veneered in walnut with burr veneered sides, boxwood stringing and rosewood crossbanding, the lid with shaped brass strap hinges the facia boards with burr maple veneers, later inlays to the sound board and carved with musical instruments, a five octave key board, FF to f3 omitting FF sharp, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, four brass knobbed hand stops controlling two 8ft and one 4ft stop on the lower manual and one 8ft, and one 8ft, lute stop to the upper manual, on later trestle stand, inscribed on a boxwood plaque on the name baton `Jacobus Kirkman Londini fecit 1763`, 236 x 95cm (91 x 36in) Recorded by Donald Boalch in Makers of the Harpsichord and Clavichord 1440-1840, 3rd edition, Editor Charles Mould, p.433
