CONDITION REPORTS: Some splits to wood and to ivory, some fading, scuffing and scratching, some losses, some small repaired patches, castors lacking, general wear.

Provenance; Private client, Lord Hay, M Harris& Sons, London, receipt dated 1st June 1932, purchased for the client from Christies May 24th 1932, Bulstrode Park. The sale date seems to indicate that the lot was acquired on behalf of Lord Hay from the celebrated sale of fine furniture belonging to Sir John Frenchville Ramsden, 6th Bt. (1877-1958), the grandson of the 12th Duke of Somerset, at Bulstrode Park, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. Bulstrode Park, which was owned by the Duke of Somerset from circa 1809, being rebuilt in its present form in 1865 by Edward Adolphus Seymour, 12th Duke of Somerset, (1804-1885). When the 12th Duke died there was no male heir so the house and estate passed to his third daughter, Lady Helen Guendolen Ramsden and thence to Sir John Frenchville Ramsden.
