An Art Deco ivory figure of a crouching nude by Ludwig Walther 1920s on an onyx base 11cm. high by 9cm. wide Literature 'For a similar piece see: Bryan Catley Art Deco and other Figures Woodbridge 2000 p. 302. Ludwig Walther was born in 1890 in Erbach where he also died in 1972. He trained under Carl Haebler in Baden-Baden and later under Ferdinand Preiss in Berlin where he specialised in the production of dancers. Many of the ivory nudes from the Preiss-Kassler workshop formerly attributed to Preiss were designed by Walther.
An Art Nouveau ivory nude with lizard by Johann Balthasar Trumpfheller circa 1930 the maiden stepping down from a rocky outcrop on an ivory base lower back signed 14.5cm. high Trumpfheller was born in Erbach in 1876 abd died in Baden-Baden in 1961. Like many of his famous contemporaries he trained under Carl Haebler in Baden-Baden. His work distinguishes itself by high craftsmenship and elaborate detail. Other of his pieces can be found in the Deutsches Elfenbeinmuseum Erbach.

Dame Ellen Alicia Terry (1847 - 1828) made her stage debut at the age of nine playing the boy Mamillius in Shakespeare's A Winter's Tale. Her most sensational success as an actress was as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing and she appeared in several works by George Bernard Shaw. She lectured on Shakespeare in England the U.S.A. and Canada and in 1925 was created a Dame of the British Empire. Sir John Gielgud (1904 - 2000) continued the family tradition of Shakespearean interpretations but he is also known for more contemporary roles. He played with Noel Coward and Graham Greene and his success continued on screen with directors such as Lawrence Olivier and Orson Welles. He was knighted in 1953 and appointed a Companion of Honour in 1977.
An ivory and silver coloured metal expanding parallel ruler mid 18th century with pivoted scroll pierced x frame two screws lacking 11.5cm long; with an ivory scale ruler calibrated as a protractor and stamped ‘I: Sifson London’ to verso 11.3cm long. (2). The scale ruler is probably by Jonathan Sisson II c.1690-1747 or his son Jeremiah fl. 1736-88 Jonathan Sisson II was chief workman for George Graham and instrument maker to H R H the Prince of Wales.
A George III mahogany and brass octant early 19th century with pivoted brass radius arm framed vernier to the ivory scale signed ‘Springer Bristol’ with sighting mirrors and hinged filters radius of frame 43cm in original ebonised box. The inside of the box is pasted with a facsmile trade label for ‘Joshua Springer Instrument Maker Hadley’s Quadrant Stephen’s Lane Bristol’.
A Victorian brass skeleton timepiece the single fusee six baluster-turned pillar movement with anchor escapement and six-spoke wheel crossings between stepped gothic influence gabled plates applied with Roman numeral ivory chapter ring on bell shaped feet 31cm high; with a later perspex cover.
An early 20th century South Indian prison rug the deep crimson field bearing a palmette flower and leaf design in blues and greens within a principal ivory ground border of entwined and meandering flowers 188cm x 107cm. By direct descent from John Phillip Cameron Inspector of Hospitals and Prisons Assam and Madras who upon retirement returned to this country with a number of prison rugs.
