A neo-classical tortoiseshell, ivory and gilt bronze 'Pendule au Cercle Tournants' vase clock, early 19th century, with ovoid ivory and pique work finial, gilt bronze grotesque mask handles, foliate carved ivory mounts and square tortoiseshell and gilt bronze pedestal with turned feet, the timepiece movement with platform lever escapement, 14½in. (36.8cm.) high.* Condition: Winds and runs - has a matched key. Very original overall and no evidence of any significant restoration - has surface dirt and mellowing to gilt throughout. Some faults as follows:- Crack and chip missing to ivory at base of vase 'cover' and a small piece has been off and reattached in this area.- 1in piece of tortoiseshell veneer below this has been off and glued back and there are two cracks through the tortoiseshell above this (below the finial) which have been filled. - Similar crack to ivory on base and one tiny' bead' from the top edge of ivory here is missing. - Crack and old glue residue to tortoiseshell collar at joint between vase and base.- Vertical crack to tortoiseshell to LH side of base.- The main tortoiseshell veneers to the body and rest of the base are in good condition. - Probable good brazed repair to top of one handle, which has been well executed but has left a copper tone to the metal.

(19.75cm.) high overall; together with a Japanese carved ivory okimono of a noblewoman holding a rose and prunus sprig, signed to base, 9¼in. (23.5cm.) high; and a faux-ivory figure of a noblewoman.
