Two 18th century short swords & scabbards contained in a glazed case. The first with turned ribbed green ivory hilt, pierced silver coloured pommel & scrolling guard, the blade stamped ?.H., 78cms. long in parchment covered scabbard with pierced scrolling mounts & ''Hawes, Bond Street''. The second sword is a short sword with ribbed green hilt & silver coloured pommel & guard, 76cms., with leather scabbard inscribed to the collar ''Daniel Holroyd, Light Infantry'', An accompanying note explains that this sword was the property of Daniel Holroyd, a brother of the Earl of Sheffield & in 90th Light Infantry. It states that he used it in ''his fatal last duel'' but there is also a note that regimental records record that he was killed in the successful assault on Castle Moro in Cuba in 1762.
