A 19thC Charles Hastilow style ivory chess set, one side stained red the other left natural, the kings and queens with jewelled crowns carved with fleur de lys motifs, surmounted by turned finials. The bishops as split mitres, the knights as horses, heads, the pawns with ball finials, all with concentric disc turned supports and domed bases, the rooks as stepped castellated towers, king 10 cm.

A pair of shibayama whist counters, circa 1880, each ivory encased body lacquered with flowers and butterflies, the lifting tablets with quail, birds, pheasants and crickets, slight damage, 9.3cm One counter with section of ivory missing from face, some staining. The other counter with shibayama bird missing.
