This piece had come through the inheritance of the collector and humanist Renèe Druart (Grasse 1888 - 1961) whose daughter Carmassi had married.

BANKS, BIRMINGHAM A GOOD LATE VICTORIAN SILVER-MOUNTED WALKING-STICK WITH ANIMATED POMMEL IN THE FORM OF A BOXER DOG, hallmarked for Birmingham, 1900, with knobbly chestnut shaft, iron tipped plated ferrule at tip, scroll embossed and engraved broad collar with vacant escutcheon, the pommel realistically carved as a boxer dog's head with red glass eyes, sprung articulated jaw and ivory ears, 36 1/2in. overall.
A FINE 32-BORE FLINTLOCK RIFLE WITH GILT AND SILVER DECORATION AND MADE FOR A BOY, SIGNED 'VERSAILLES', no visible serial number,undoubtedly the work of Boutet, Manuf. de Versailles, early 19th century, with 16in. swamped octagonal multigroove-rifled sighted barrel decorated over its entire length with gilt foliage, classical ornament, lines and stars against a matt blue-black ground, engraved tang and bright flat bevel-edged shaped lock, the latter decorated with a griffin on the tail and signed below the pan 'MANUF. DE VERSAILLES', figured moulded walnut full stock (some minor repairs) with raised cheek-piece, chequered grip and fore-end, cast and polished silver mounts decorated in low relief in the neo-classical Empire style including trigger-guard with urn finials, and ebony ramrod with ivory tip, the whole expertly restored to museum condition, overall length 31in., weight approximately 3lbs.
COLT, LONDON A .36 PERCUSSION REVOLVER, MODEL '1851 LONDON NAVY', serial no. 2617, WITH LATER CASE, for 1853, with blued octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'ADDRESS COL COLT, LONDON', the left side of breech marked with a broad arrow between 'W.D.', reblued six-shot cylinder scrubbed of scene, London proofs, open colour hardened iron frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT' and retaining a strong amount of renewed colour, silver-plated grip-straps and trigger-guard (renewed), smooth flared period ivory grip and colour hardened under-barrel rammer, 13 3/4in. overall, complete with its reproduction American style walnut case with radiused edges, lined and compartmented in black velvet, reproduction instruction label inside lid, the tray with reproduction mould, flask and nipple-key.
