A Large 19th Century Framed Ivory-Glazed Ceramic Crucifix: Christ depicted with an intricately detailed crown of thorns hanging on a giltwood cross below inscribed banner. The figure 15 ins (38 cms) in length, mounted in a decorative oval gilt frame with convex glass 29 ins x 24 ins (74 cm x 61 cms).
A Superb Dan Guere Mask from the Ivory Coast. The style of mask is known as "Bugle", Bugle eyes are usually round, protruding tubes. This has an upturned mouth with viscous looking teeth, remains of leather/material nailed to the mask and remains of animal hair and a rough orange/brown substance painted on giving an encrusted patina around the eyes. This originally would have had an adornment around the outside of the mask which has been removed. The mid 20th Century mask is made from wood, material, nails and animal hair. It measures approx. 10 ins (25 cm) tall, 6 ¼ ins (16 cm) wide and 5 ins (13 cm) deep.
A Large and Beautifully carved Mid- Late 20th Century Senufo Ceremonial Offering Pot from the Ivory Coast. The Pot is decorated with an equestrian figure on top, representing a fortune-teller known as "master of the horse" or "Siyonfolo" as well as a figure who represents a bush ghost, both important in Senufo society. As well as these two figures the lid shows two Porpianong birds (Calao birds). The bowl of the item is carved with turtles, a lizard and a snake, being held at the bottom by Senufo musicians. The piece is made of wood, measuring approx. 27 ½ ins (70 cm) tall and 12 ins (30 cm) wide.
The Early-Mid 20th Century Grebo Degne Mask is used at the ceremony to welcome the Chief, it is then danced to purify the village. It is also used to welcome other Chiefs from neighbouring villages into their village. The ethnic group is knows as Kroumen, this mask was collected from a village called Bieheron on the border between the Ivory Coast and Liberia in the San Pedro area. The piece is made of wood, pigment, shows the remains of feathers, and woven beads. The piece measures approx. 28 ins (72 cm) tall, 8 ins (20 cm) wide and 7 ½ ins (19 cm) deep.
An Interesting and Unusual Mid 20th Century Baule Royal Crocodile Footstool. The two headed crocodile figure is shown with open mouths to protect each side of the Chief, previously owned by Chief Nanan Tanon N'goh of Bouake in the Ivory Coast. 31 ¼ ins (79 cm) in length, 6 ins (15 cm) tall and 5 ¼ ins (13.5 cm) deep.
A Large Augsberg Silver Mounted Ivory Tankard of fine quality. The ivory body richly carved in relief with a continuous allegorical scene and mounted on a silver foot embossed with face masks spewing scrolls of trailing acanthus entwined in strapwork on a matted ground. The domed lid with similar decoration, a gilt interior and carved ivory surmount in the form of a plumed helmet. 16 ins (41 cms) in height. An Early 20th Century Baule Janus Mask Circa 1910-1930. The style of the faces on this pieces shows a similarity to the "Akan" which the Baule tribe originated from. The piece is made of wood, originated from the Ivory Coast and is approx. 8 ins (20 cm) tall, 5 ¼ ins (13 cm) wide and 2 ½ ins (6.5 cm) deep.
