Late 19th Century Cantonese carved ivory and fabric fan with foliate design to frame and embroidered with a dragon 26 cm a/f boxed with another ivory framed and fabric fan a/f 25cm and a mother o pearl hand painted on satin of spanish female seated on a bench in gardens playing a guitar boxed 28.5cm
Kashan rug, west Persia, circa 1920s-30s, 6ft. 11in. X 4ft. 4in. 2.11m. X 1.32m. Overall even wear; small repairs to centre. Terracotta cartouche shape field with dark blue centre jewel pendant medallion; narrow dark blue and ivory spandrels; all over scrolling flowers and foliage; dark blue main border with pale blue and pale green guards. Close clipped velvety wool.

Superb Mohtashem Kashan rug, west Persia, last quarter 19th century, 6ft. 9in. X 4ft. 4in. 2.05m. X 1.32m. Very slight loss to top end; fraying to narrow flatweave lower end, now turned under. Stencil no. 51453 (probably Perez) verso one end. Small central flowerhead within a dark blue medallion on a light red cartouche shaped field of floral and pale blue strapwork design; dark blue spandrels each with an ivory floral cartouche; dark blue floral main border and light red floral guards; outer stripe of camel and ivory medachyl design. Close cropped velvety wool and rich palette.
Sarab runner, north west Persia, dated 1344 (AH) [1925 AD] 12ft. 1in. X 3ft. 4in. 3.68m. X 1.02m. Slight wear in places. Light camel field with central pole medallion, alternately terracotta and light blue, within an ivory main border and light green and terracotta reciprocal medachyl outer border. Lustrous wool and soft palette.
Kurdish runner, north west Persia, early 20th century, 10ft. X 3ft. 7in. 3.05m. X 1.09m. Overall even wear; reweave to top end of field; losses to ends. Pale yellow field with all over flowering plants within a wide terracotta star and octagon main border within ivory trailing vine guards and an inner chestnut flowerhead guard. Soft palette and soft handle.
Abadeh runner, south west Persia, circa 1940s-50s, 9ft. 8in. X 3ft. 2in. 2.94m. X 0.97m. Ivory lozenge shaped field with central tree of life to a small central medallion filled with many small motifs including animals and birds; dark red spandrels with ivory rosettes and mid-blue floral main border.
Fine Benlian Tabriz carpet, north west Persia, early 20th century, 20ft. 2in. X 11ft. 4in. 6.15m. X 3.45m. With signature woven in the eight pointed star in the top right corner of the inner ivory guard. Pale blue field with large ivory centre jewel pendant medallion and pale pink spandrels. The central medallion filled with cranes and deer; the field with all over animals and birds of field, forest and jungle playing among flowering trees; a pale green dragon at the base of each pair of cypress trees; a lion cub peering out of the indigo medallion in each ivory pendant; the pale pink spandrels each woven with two whirling dervishes; dark red palmette and floral main border within ivory floral guards. A superb carpet finely woven in a soft palette and in ready to use condition. See front cover.
Turkish carpet, possibly Borlu district, west Anatolia, circa 1930s-50s, 15ft. 3in. X 11ft. 2in. 4.65m. x 3.40m. Overall wear, heavier in some places; some fading; tear and damage to outer border top right side and to lower left corner; some surface marks; slight losses to ends. Pale pink floral field with pale blue centre medallion; ivory and pale blue spandrels; wide pale blue main border; pale pink and pale yellow/green guards. Asymmetric knots. Soft palette.

Small areas of old moth damage to lower end; small split to field top end. Ivory field with all over shield shape medallions within a red floral main border. Robust handle.

Pretty pale blue cartouche shape field with dark blue and ivory centre medallion and ivory spandrels with all over scrolling flower design; dark red flowerhead and palmette main border within ivory and dark blue floral guards and plain dark red outer band.
Sparta carpet of almost square format with inscriptions, south west Anatolia, last quarter 19th century, 13ft. X 13ft. 4in. 3.96m. X 4.06m. Slight wear in places; lacking the flatweave finish at the top end. The red/rose field with pale gold inscription cartouche above the central indigo and pale gold medallion; pale green spandrels. Wonderful spatial all over design of angular flowers and foliage enlivened by the occasional amusing bird. Small ivory inscription octagons in the top right and lower left spandrels; red/rose main border with indigo and pale gold guards. Lustrous, velvety wool and relatively soft handle. Provenance: Purchased by the present owner in the early 1990s from the well-known carpet specialists, R. L. Rose and Company of Glasgow. The original receipt is available to view in the office.
