An early 20th c. bone and ivory Shrine in the form of a pagoda with double doors opening to reveal a Buddha, the plinth/steps to the front accommodating a pair of baluster vases, 8 7/8'' high x 4 3/8'' wide x 4 5/8'' deep and having all over carved flora decoration. A handwritten notes refers: ''This was given to.......in the late 1940's by a ''Gay'' Hereford hairdressing Salon owner, Mr. Aubrey Shorten after the sale of his property Elmsdale, Wormelow. The carving was brought back from the far east by Mr. Shorten, where he had worked for some 10 years as the Pursar of a passenger and freight ferry sailing between mainland China and Hong Kong, cargoes apparently of doubtful legality being transported including passengers. The value is unknown but it was regarded with significance by Aubrey Shorten'', sold together with a black finished plinth
