76.5cm curved blade, copper hilt retaining some gilding and with lion's head pommel, D-shaped knuckle guard and scrolling side guard enclosing a fouled anchor, wire bound ivory grip, contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard, the locket signed Tatham to His Majesty, No.37 Charing Cross Near The Admiralty, and engraved with inscription on the outer face. The inscription reads "The gift of Jno. Thompson Esq. to his friend Lieut Colin Campbell Decemr 1804". Ivory Declaration Submission Reference NCSMT6X2.Colin Campbell entered the Navy in 1799 as a First Class Volunteer on the Anson under Captain Philip Durham, latterly as a Midshipman. After serving on a number of ships, he rejoined Durham on the Defiance as Master's Mate in 1805, participating in the Battle of Trafalgar. He obtained his commission in January 1806 and served in the West Indies at the reduction of Martinique and Guadeloupe in 1809-10. He was officially posted in 1815 and advanced to flag rank in 1846. The inscription refers to him as a Lieutenant in December 1804, although he did not receive his commission until 1806. He probably was given the sword on his appointment as Master's Mate, a rank which, at that time, was on a par with that of a Lieutenant.

84.5cm curved blade with clipped back point, etched with scrolling foliage, crowned VRI cypher, owner's initials and a maker's panel for W. LEHMANN REGENCY HOUSE ALDERSHOT, regulation copper gilt hilt with riveted two-piece ivory grips, contained in its plated steel scabbard, some lifting, complete with knot and bag. 73.5cm blade etched and gilded with the Royal arms, crowned GR cypher, figure of Britannia, trophies of arms and foliage, and signed Hunter's Warranted, copper hilt with knuckle guard incorporating a small crowned fouled anchor, the back-piece engraved with presentation inscription "As a tribute of Gratitude to Capt. David Gilkinson of the ship Hope from the Underwriters of the Brig Fame for his exertions in saving goods from the wreck of that vessel on 28 Feb 1805", wire bound ribbed ivory grip contained in its linear engraved copper mounted leather covered wooden scabbard. On the 27th February 1805 the Fame was driven ashore and wrecked in the Clyde. She was on a voyage from Greenock, Renfrewshire, to Trinidad. Ivory Declaration Submission Reference 9DNU1CDQ.
