A massive silver gilt and ivory tankard by J Fischer, Budapest, c.1900, the hinged lid surmounted by an eagle feeding its young atop a rocky outcrop with skulls strewn below, the body deeply carved in relief with elk within woodland, the carved ivory foliage giving way to the silver gilt canopy, the handle in the form of knotted limbs, with small silver gilt squirrel, the base chased with further foliage and otters, signed on the ivory, approximate weight 9.5kg, 55cm high Provenance: from a private collection. 1979 Lloyds insurance paperwork available.
A large silver gilt and carved ivory covered cup by Joseph Fischer 1918, oval campana shape the barrel applied with a frieze carved in relief in great detail with an elaborate scene of nymphs on the edge of a pool of oxidised silver in which swim further nymphs modelled in full relief, surrounded by water lilies, against a thick woodland background, the stem applied with winged putti carrying festoons, the domed cover with a finial in the form of an ivory cupid seated pensively, the silver-gilt cast and chased with scrolling foliage, flowers, masks, arches and swags of flowers, signed and dated on the ivory, approximate weight 4.5kg, 54.5cm high Provenance: from a private collection. 1979 Lloyds insurance paperwork available.
