A NORTH INDIAN CARVED JADE KHANJAR (DAGGER) GRIP, 18th century, carved in relief with four six-petal flowerheads and leafage, the body of light celadon colour with "snowflake" inclusions, later fitted with a Japanese shibayama inlaid ivory page turner blade, circa 1890, 48cm long overall. The handle only 13cm long. Condition report: The handle is good with no chips or cracks noted except for natural faults. The ivory blade with significant losses of inlay, particularly on side (a phoenix bird) and crudely glued into handle socket - this is currently slightly wobbly - and the glue does not appear to be a super glue
A CHINESE CARVED IVORY FIGURE OF GUANYIN, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, standing holding a basket of flowers and a ruyi sceptre, 22cm high, on a carved hardwood lotus and bud stand, 24cm high overall. Condition report: A small bruise on the gathered fold of the robe at the front left, small crack bottom of robe front left, old cracks on subjects left forehead and upper forehead, overall staining and brownish secretion, the stand has a minor crack to one lotus petal and small chip. Small re-glued lotus corm. Re-glued leafage on one side. Otherwise is generally good.
A JAPANESE CARVED IVORY BOX AND COVER as Buddhai, Meiji period (1868-1912), the corpulent deity crouching over a sack, 4cm high x 6.3cm wide, and a Japanese carved ivory okimono of Guanyin, circa 1900-1910, standing holding a fish in a basket, with engraved robes rubbed with coloured pigments, two character incised mark on inset mother of pearl kakihan, 14.8cm high (2). Condition report: Slight browning on the back. Very minor chips on the rim of head veil and hem of robes
A CHINESE CARVED IVORY FONDLING PIECE, Qing Dynasty, probably 18th century, accurately carved as a small section of flowering prunus, bark and branches, 3.7cm high; a Chinese jade tubular toggle in archaistic Han style, fashioned as a pig, 4.1cm long; and a Chinese cinnabar lacquer lidded box, early 20th century, carved with peonies in high relief, 7.4cm dia.(3) Condition report: Fine old patina and old drying cracks. Toggle: good condition throughout. Cinnabar box: good condition throughout.
THREE CANTONESE CARVED AND PIERCED IVORY BRISEE FANS, Qing Dynasty, late 18th century, each with blind carved decorative guards, 26.5cm, 25cm and 14.7cm long respectively. Provenance: Private Collection, Knightsbridge. Condition report: The largest example has at least seven small pierced vertical line sections with damage and there is staining in patches. The medium example has very bad damage on the far left stick and very small puncture marks and losses throughout. The small example (considered for a child) has gluing and losses on the first three sticks from the left side, a crack in one more stick, and old repairs to two others and losses on another central example. Also staining. All three sold af.
HIPPOPOTAMUS - IVORY TEETH two pairs of Hippopotamus teeth of varying sizes, both mounted on a wooden shield. Also with two additional Hippo teeth, these were all brought back by the vendor in the 1960's. Shield 59cms high *This species is listed as Annex B so no licence is required as they are Pre Convention (1975), so no documents would exist or be required to sell. If sold/shipped outside of the EU a CITES re-export licence would be required.

W.A.P. MARTIN(1827-1916) American Presbyterian missionary to China, served as interpreter during the negotiations for the Treaty of Tientsin in 1858. Signature on a 12mo sheet of paper, dated March 23, 1906 at Shanghai, to a Miss Blodgett, also executing lines from a Chinese poem in English and Chinese characters, in full: "A speck upon your ivory form/You soon may grind away/But stains upon the heart or tongue/Remain alas! for aye". Folds, else very good.
An oval bust portrait miniature, of a lady wearing a white headdress, watercolour on ivory, the reversed inscribed Zaag by Will (William) Wood, of Cork Street, Lond: 1805, 8 x 6.5 cm See illustration Condition report Report by GHIvory generally in good condition with no obvious warping, cracking etc. When the miniature is removed from the frame it is evident there is some very light surface scratching to the image, and some rubbing around the edges where the image has sat in the frame. Overall the image does not appear to be faded or with any major damage or restoration.
