A good Baluchi main carpet Khorasan north east Persia or Adraskand Valley west Afghanistan second half 19th century 8ft.11in. x 6ft.5in. 2.72m. x 1.96m. Small crude reweaves lower right field and lower left inner border very slight loss right edge; small areas of wear dark brown corroded in places. Woven in two equal sections joined vertically in centre. Like the best old rugs of this type this example has an exceptional palette Ð dark blue mid blue green red aubergine dark brown pale yellow ivory.

An attractive and unusual European carpet possibly English early 19th century 14ft.2in. x 12ft.6in. 4.32m. x 3.80m. Even wear overall holes and areas of damage losses. The structure of this carpet indicates a European origin but the design is clearly based on an Indian design with one particular element the blue and ivory curving motifs described as resembling racemes of wisteria blossom being specifically associated with Moghal Indian carpets; however the overall scheme as well as some of the smaller floral elements and in particular the soft palette seem European.
