An Edwardian coromandel wood stationery cabinet, with tambour front and with ivory handles. Height 25 cm, width +/- 36 cm, depth 32 cm. NOTE: This item has been assigned an ivory exemption certificate F84QBW2D. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in generally extremely good condition. The tambour front operates smoothly. There are no splits to the Coromandel wood anywhere on the piece. The interior divisions are all in good condition. The hinges to the bottom of each interior division which do operate look to be later but are effective as are the interior division supports.

Lady Mary Elizabeth Bennet (1785-1861) An album of landscape views, various diminutive sizes, pasted into an album, mixed media, watercolour, graphite, and pen and ink, album 20.5 x 32cms. Notes: Daughter of the Earl of Tankerville, whose family seat was Chillingham Castle. Bennet was a watercolour artist, and was included in many exhibitions. Trained by John Varley in London, and from 1815-1823 she worked with artist John Linnell in engravings and miniatures on ivory. Together they produced a set of 12 engravings depicting Chillingham Castle, not published until 1818.She married Sir Charles Miles Lambert Monck, of Belsay Castle in Northumberland. Here she worked with her gardener William Richardson to cultivate new strains of tri-coloured viola pansy flowers.

There are holes of varying sizes, one area consisting of six grouped holes, the largest between diameter of 3cms. A few large areas of restoration, the largest 30cm diam, and an area loss to the design by 4cm by 4cm at one edge. The border edges of the rug have large areas of loss where the fringe is absent. A professional restoration and consolidation would be recommended. The rug would benefit from cleaning. Please see further images for condition.
