Samuel Shelley (British, 1750-1808) a fine portrait miniature of Marianne de Gastine, wearing a white lace dress, tied fichu and a single strand pearl necklace, white ribbons in her powdered hair, oval watercolour on ivory, 4 x 3.3cm., within a pierced gilt scroll frame with suspension loop. * Marianne de Gastine was the daughter of Major De Gastine, a French refugee in the Dutch service. She was married at The Hague to Anthony Aufrère (b.1704-d.1781), Rector of Heigham, Norfolk from 1732-1782. See Illustration.
Charles Hayter (British, 1761-1835) a portrait miniature of Anthony Aufrère (1704-1781), Rector of Heigham, Norfolk from 1732 to 1781, oval watercolour on ivory, 6.2 x 5.1cm., some fading, within a gold frame with dark blue enamel verso, centred by an oval opalescent guilloche enamel compartment containing a lock of hair tied with tiny seed pearls and gold wire. A French inlaid mahogany grand piano form necessaire second quarter of the 19th century, the well figured hinged lid with inlaid satinwood and stained harewood keyboard, the sides with gilt metal foliate scroll mounts and floral rosette escutcheon, raised on five turned tapered supports (three replaced), the interior with mirror to inner lid and ivory padded silk cover, lifting to reveal a fitted purple velvet tray with complete original contents including silver mounted scissors, stiletto and cut glass scent bottle, silver thimble and needle case, polished steel scissors and tweezers with wax scoop terminal, velvet pin cushion pad with silver wire floral spray decoration and mother-of-pearl bodkin and two silk winders, the tray with storage beneath containing two needle cases in silk and kid leather, 8¾ x 6½in. (22.25 x 16.5cm.), 5½in. (14cm.) high. See Illustration.
A turned ivory Stanhope dip pen `A Present from Guernsey`, with pierced decoration and plated metal nib holder, 6½in. (16.5cm.) long; together with a carved ivory letter opener; eight miniature photos on metal of ladies in gilt metal frames; two similar unframed photos; and a plated metal locket. (13)
AN EARLY 18th CENTURY IVORY CARVING OF QUEEN ANNE AND PRINCE GEORGE OF DENMARK, the two portrait busts above an an engraved shield and banner below inscribed VIAE ANNA GEORGIUS within an elaborately carved border decorated with acanthus leaves, grotesque mask and griffins, surmounted by a crown and panoply of arms, in the manner of Joachim Henne (active 1663-1707), laid on a (later) shield shaped wooden plaque, 30cm by 28cm NOTE: Joachim Henne was a renowned ivory carver who worked in Denmark and Northern Germany specialising in small portrait reliefs and busts. He did a series of ivory busts of the Danish Royal family now in the Copenhagen museum. He also produced figure groups and ivory reliefs depicting mythological scenes. From 1702-07 he is recorded as the Court miniature painter at the Brandenburg Court in Berlin and is also known to have worked in wood.

II (2 bumps to lower edge of vol. II, joints and raised bands lightly rubbed, some very light scuffing, a few small holes in liners). The lower rear dentelles are stamped in gilt "Miniatures by C. B.
