A Pair of Early 19th Century Cantonese Ivory Puzzle Balls, each ball carved from a single piece of ivory. The intricately carved outer sphere having twelve evenly sized rondel's. The outer casing housing approximately sixteen inner graduated balls with pierced floral decoration. The outer balls carved with various scenes of village and court life. Each ball surmounted with a carved ivory figure of mother and child beneath a floral canopy suspended from a ten link chain attached to a finely carved stylized fish hook. Beneath the puzzle balls are carved floral and fungi drops, with red silk and wire tassels. Antique Display Cabinets: The puzzle balls are housed in a pair of antique iron wood bevelled glass fronted display cabinets, the cabinets having carved apposing dragons to top and bottom friezes with carved stylized centre mount. Tree peony carved to the interior panels and cherry blossom to the exterior side panels. Approx 90 x 31 x 19 cms.
