A Set of Twelve Victorian Silver-Mounted Ivory Fish-Eaters, by Roberts and Belk, Sheffield, 1897, Retailed by Manoah Rhodes, Bradford, each ivory handle stained with an initial, in fitted brass mounted oak case, the case 35cm wide (24) . Each piece marked on back of blade or tines. The ferrules apparently unmarked. The marks are generally clear. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some discolouration and scratching to the ivory handles. The handles have some loss of finish in areas. The engraved and stained finish is worn and missing in places. The case has some scuffing and scratching. The key is lacking.
A George III Silver Teapot and Cream-Jug, by George and Alice Burrows, London, 1816, each oval and on shell and foliage cast feet, with fluted lower bodies, the teapot with ivory insulated handle, the teapot 27.5cm long, gross weight 30oz 10dwt (2) . The teapot fully marked underneath. Further part marked on handle, inside cover and on wing nut. There is some minor wear to the marks. The marks on the cover are part cut through by the hole for the finial. There is overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points. There has been a small repair to one lobe near the handle and another near the spout. The ivory insulators are cracked and discoloured. One pin fixing the handle has been replaced. The cream-jug: fully marked underneath. There is overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points. There is an area of repair to the lower body near the handle. There has perhaps been a repair to the top of the handle.
A Victorian Silver Teapot, by Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall, London, 1879, oblong and on four ball feet, the lower body part-fluted and below engraved foliage, the ivory-insulated scroll handle engraved with initials, 28.5cm wide over handle, gross weight 31oz 6dwt . Fully marked near handle and part marked inside cover and on handle. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some staining and cracks to the ivory insulators. Of heavy gauge.
A Victorian Silver Teapot, by John Samuel Hunt, London, 1849, melon-fluted and on three cast branch feet, the hinged cover with foliage and flower finial, with branch and oak-leaf cast ivory-insulated handle, 28cm wide over handle, gross weight 23oz 15dwt. Marked underneath, inside cover, on handle and finial. There is some wear to marks, though they are generally still legible. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the engraving. There is some discolouration and cracking to the ivory insulators. There have been repairs to some of the lobes and some bruising.
A George IV Silver Teapot, Maker's Mark IB, London, 1824, compressed circular and on collet foot, the lobed sides chased with foliage and flowers on a matted ground, with ivory-insulated leaf-capped handle, engraved with an initial, 20.5cm wide over handle, gross weight 11oz 18dwt . Fully marked underneath. Further part marked on handle and inside cover. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear as well as some minor bruises, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a softening to the high points and to the engraving. The ivory insulators are somewhat discoloured and with some cracks. The handle is slightly loose and the bolt fixing the finial is a replacement which doesn't tighten fully causing the finial to also be somewhat loose.
