Exceptional Lori rug with dark blue field and Shekarlu border, Boyr Ahmad va Kohgiluyeh, south west Persia, late 19th century, 8ft. 6in. x 5ft. 8in. 2.59m. x 1.73m. Some wear in places; small repairs. Blue fabric tape sewn each end verso. Note the plethora of small animals throughout and the splendid ivory Shekarlu main border. The Lori and the Shekarlu tribe of the Qashqa’i Confederation shared the area of land due south of Esfahan and north east of Fars. Not only did they share living space, however, but they also shared designs of which this is the best known. The Lori versions usually have a thicker, shaggier pile and are symmetrically knotted. They tend to have dark blue grounds. A most attractive rug with lustrous wool and fabulous colour. A very similar rug sold these Rooms Lot 2045 14th July 2011. cf. Parham, C. Masterpieces of Fars Rugs, p. 45; pl. 1 for a similar piece but with a red ground.
Interesting Qashqa’i rug, possibly Igder/Sheshboluki, Fars, south west Persia, late 19th/early 20th century, 8ft. 8in. x 4ft. 8in. 2.64m. x 1.42m. Overall wear with some reweaves. Note the two lines of stepped appendages to the ivory diamond shaped medallions with just one line at the lower end; the many and varied motifs in the indigo field including one tribal figure and the ivory main border of spaced polychrome boteh surrounded by racemes of flowerheads or stars, and the typical chequerboard ends.
Two Baluchi rugs, Khorasan, north east Persia, late 19th/early 20th century, the first, a Salar Khani with ivory stepped guls to the centre, 5ft. 9in. x 3ft. 1in. 1.75m. x 0.94m.; the second with all over latticed octagons, 5ft. 11in. x 3ft. 8in. Both with overall wear and heavy corrosion in places; fraying to side; the second with losses to lower end. Note the differing design in the main border at each end of the second rug and the use of mid-blue, particularly in the end borders. (2)
Two Afshar khorjin, Kerman area, south west Persia, late 19th century, the first with flowers on an indigo field and striped border, 1ft. 9in. x 2ft. 6in. 0.53m. x 0.76m. The second with narrow indigo field and ivory main border, 1ft. 4in. x 1ft. 10in. 0.41m. x 0.55m. Both with striped plainweave backs; the second with closing loops. Both with overall wear, with corrosion and some damage, holes and repairs to backs. The first khorjin with good wool and superb colour. (2)
Four Baluchi khorjin faces and one khorjin with good striped flatweave back in bands of pale gold and red, Khorasan, north east Persia, all early 20th century, one face with ivory border and woollen tufts to sides and with stencil no. verso: P27600. Some wear and small damages. Sold as a collection with all faults not subject to return. (5)
Salar Khani Baluchi saddle cover, Khorasan, north east Persia, early 20th century, with coloured fringing to all sides; some moth damage and small holes; stencil no. P45492 verso; and a Baluchi khorjin face, Khorasan, north east Persia, early 20th century, dark blue central square within ivory and blue outline rosette inner border; with flatweave end and remains of closing loops. An attractive khorjin with lustrous wool and rich colour. (2)

Impressive Ravar Kerman prayer carpet, south west Persia, late 19th century, 16ft. 9in. x 10ft. 6in. 5.11m. x 3.20m. Overall wear; heavy in places; conservation repairs to foundation; slight losses to ends. Note the beautifully drawn design including cypress trees in two sizes with other blossoming trees at the base, the branches scrolling into the field and forming a pale brown ogival lattice enclosing flowering shrubs and plants and with ivory flowerheads in the top of the mihrab.
Good Amritzar carpet, north India, early 20th century, 13ft. 11in. x 10ft. 1in. 4.25m. x 3.07m. Some surface marks. Note the beautifully abrashed pale blue field with spectacular design of sweeping floral racemes at each end; the floral motifs around the outer edge of the field and the ivory floral main border. A most attractive carpet.
Five Anatolian kelims, all last quarter 20th century, the first 12ft. 6in. x 7ft. 3in. 3.80m. x 2.21m.; the second, dark colour and narrow banded, 6ft. 5in. x 4ft. 11in.; 1.96m. x 1.50m.; the third, wide colourful bands, 7ft. 5in. x 4ft. 8in. 2.26m. x 1.42m.; the fourth, brown, cream and orange bands, 6ft. 9in. x 5ft. 2in. 2.05m. x 1.58m. Sivas carpet of classic hunting design on a rose field, east Anatolia, early 20th century, 11ft. 2in. x 8ft. 2in. 3.40m. x 2.49m. Overall even wear. Note the profusion of animals in the field; the serpents forming cloudband shapes and the winged mythical animals in the rich dark blue spandrels; floral cartouches and rosettes in the ivory main border. A most attractive carpet of good colour.
Ersari Turkmen 3 x 6 gulli-gul main carpet, south west Turkmenistan, second half 19th century, 9ft. x 7ft. 2in., 2.75m. x 2.18m. Overall wear, heavier in some places with holes; losses to lower end; striped kelim turned under at the top end. Note the occasional use of a pale yellow and ivory; the two colourful minor ornaments of star-like motifs in the field and the shades of blue through including a light bluey-green. See Reuben, David. Gols and Guls, pl. 22 for a very similar carpet.
Anatolian tulu, Karapinar area, central Anatolia, first half 20th century, 7ft. 4in. x 4ft. 5in. 2.24m. x 1.35m. Overall wear and thin in places. An Anatolian banded flatweave, brown and cream with narrow red stripes, two narrow pale green stripes and a single motif embroidered in pale green, 20th century, 4ft. 6in. x 3ft. 1.37m. x 1m.; an Anatolian flatweave, 20th century, 3ft. 11in. x 2ft. 5in. 1.20m. x 0.74m. The plain olive green ground with details/small repairs(?) in contrasting coloured wool; some surface marks; and a Zemmour woman’s cloak, Middle Atlas, Morocco, 20th century, 5ft. 4in. x 2ft. 9in. 1.63m. x 0.84m. with horizontal bands of brocading; the three central bands decorated with tufts of wool in ivory and pink; additional plaited tie to one selvedge. Good main carpet by the Ersari Turkmen of Beshir, south Turkmenistan, circa 1870s, 10ft. 5in. x 5ft. 9in. 3.17m. x 1.75m. Overall wear; small repairs; ends possibly re-woven/re-fringed. Note the all over latticed design and the inner and outer guards, secondary borders and other details in pale yellow; the colour referred to in Loges, W. Turkoman Tribal Rugs, p.156; pl. 91, as ‘Beshir-yellow’. Other colours include ivory, mid-blue; light blue and light green. A most attractive carpet of good age and glorious colour.
Yomut Turkmen mafrash face of ivory panelled design, Turkmenistan, late 19th century, 1ft. 2in. x 2ft. 6in. 0.36m. x 0.77m. Overall wear with some reweaves. Together with a Yomut Turkmen 3 x 3 gul chuval face, Turkmenistan, late 19th century, 2ft. 4in. x 3ft. 11in. 0.71m. x 1.20m. Overall even wear. Note the secondary guls with a variation of the charkh palak ornaments and the three bird’s feet motifs in narrow top elem. (2)
Kizil Ayak Turkmen 3 x 3 gul chuval face, Ersari group, south west Turkmenistan, late 19th century, 2ft. 10in. x 4ft. 6in. 0.86m. x 1.37m. Overall wear; losses to both ends; ‘bites’ to lower end. Note the tiny single triangle motifs in the ivory quarters of the main guls; the kochanak main border and sarkhala guard stripes. The lower elem has a row of very upright ‘tree’ motifs each divided by a column of small inverted ‘V’ motifs.

Some surface marks. And an Ersari Turkmen flatweave weft-float brocade torba, Turkmenistan, early 20th century, 1ft. 3in. x 2ft. 11in. 0.38m. x 0.89m. A collection of English porcelain, to include an 18th Century Worcester saucer dish circa 1775, of circular form the scrolling scalloped central reserve picked out with gilt spring flowers reserved against a turquoise ground together with a cobalt dessert dish of oval lobed form, the ivory and cobalt ground further detailed with a series of seven panels filled with English botanical designs and a Staffordshire low comport painted with central design of a teal duck, reserved against a diaper work and rocaille ground.
