A IVORY NETSUKE OF A SHISHI HEAD IN THE MANNER OF TOMOTADA, Signed, well carved with a hinged opening jaw revealing tongue and teeth, Length 5 cm. height 3.5 cm Provenance: Most probably from the Estate of Charles Archibald Stonehill (1900- 1969?) , Antiquarian Bookseller of New Haven Connecticut and London. A 19th Century Chinese export carved ivory figural chess set, Canton. The white and red side modelled as Emperors and Empresses, bishops as mandarins, knights on horseback, rooks as elephants surmounted by a turret and mahout, pawns as soldiers on horseback, each piece on a pierced concentric ball stand, The kings 19.5 cm and 17.5 cm high respectively, the pawns 9 cm high, together with a set of thirty two carved ivory counters, stained red and left natural, with two carved ivory beakers with dice.
